FYI not everyone is a UK resident. Last time I looked all insurance via credit cards equated to approx UK 200 per day in Australia.Holding a platinum card,as I do,does not increase this.Let me know what card is so generous in the UK so that iIcan charge accordingly.

No sh*t Sherlock. That's why I asked if travel insurance was generally a British thing.

I know that it's not common in the US, so I was wondering about other countries.

Not sure what you mean by this. That you can claim £200 per day, or that it costs £200 a day? Either way, I still don't understand.

The insurance provided with the AMEX platinum charge card gives £1500 for luggage loss - in the UK at least. Not sure what they provide in other countries.

Rick

Yeah, that's why I can't understand people spending thousands on a First class ticket, but not having any insurance to cover them if the worst happens.

On a similar note, how are people covered for illness or injuries when they travel abroad without insurance? If you travel to the US, and need any sort of treatment, it could bankrupt you if you didn't have any cover.

Rick

I get about the same insurance for lost luggage as you - $3000, and the card has no annual fee :)

My particular card also covers injuries and illness. I assume it would be very costly if you had no insurance.

I noticed that no-one answered your previous question. Having lived in the US / Canada and the UK, I have seen noticable differences. For example, if you buy something from the British www.lastminute.com, the insurance is something you take without thinking. However, generally, if you buy a holiday on an American website such as expedia.com, very few people take the (costly) insurance.

I pay £275 a year for my card, but I get the travel insurance, Priority Pass (worth £250), SPG Gold, HHonors Gold, so I think I get good value out of it. It also means I don't have to pay an annual fee for my BA Credit Card, which would normally be £120.

Rick
