Silver Tier

Sorry to ask such a basic question, but can someone offer advice on the following matter.

I am taking an extended vacation in J in December through BHX-DXB-SIN-MEL-AKL-SYD-DXB-BHX.

The trip accrues enough tier points to get me to Silver, but runs across the year end tier point reset.

What are the chances of Emirates upgrading me to Silver in these circumstances ?

If each 1/2 of your trip (BHX-AKL and AKL-BHX) are in different tier periods, sadly, you won't be able to get silver status.

The above post is wrong. They are very flexible on giving Tier Status. Recently, my colleague at work was very close to Silver at the end of December 2005. He had scheduled a flight to Zurich in January 2006. He called Emirates and they gave him an email in which he had to write them with his flight details. They granted him Silver Status, but he has to re-qualify fully next year. Give them a call and get the email address.

Regards,

Billman

Thanks for the advice. I'll contact them on my return and plead my case.

If they're accommodating, they've got a repeat customer.

Sorry.... but you are wrong. If you read my post more carefully, you will see that I explained that IF half the trip is on each side of the New Year they will NOT grant the status. If you are close to silver by the end of a year they WILL grant status (for example 2,000 miles off) However, by the end of the year the OP will have only gotten 65-70% of the miles needed for silver which is why the status was granted.

Considering the first half of his trip will net him almost 19,000 status miles, and the second half of his trip is already booked and paid for, it seems reasonable that Emirates, with it's pretty lenient policy in awarding status, would grant him it. We need to be careful about differentiating opinion from fact. None of us can say for sure what Emirates will do.

This is true. It's also true that the advise you get seems to depend on which Skywards/Emirates office you call.

I'd phone your local office (Manchester?), and if they don't help, phone the Dubai office. Maybe even the MEL or AKL offices while you are there.

This has worked for me in the past. I the MAN office about at STPC, they refused, but the Cairo office gave one without question.

Cheers,
Rick

Definately call because it doesn't hurt to ask and EK does go out of its way a lot. I am just saying that it is not too likely because the OP will only have 19,000 (forgot about the J class bonus before - sorry) of the required 25,000 miles

Cheers

Worthwhile phoning around as it appears occasionally some call centers can do things that others say it is impossible to do.

The other thing to bear in mind is that the last two years Emirates has had a special promotion of double tire miles in specified months, last year it was October and in 2004 it was November.

Watch out for this as it is only announced a few weeks before and you have to register for it, but it would be highly unlikely to be December.

Silver is well worth it, I know having just been bumped back to blue :(

Sadiqhassan, I did read your post carefully, but again the information is incorrect. Yesterday, I spoke with another friend, who was around 16,000 miles short. Flew a business class flight to Auckland, in mid February, almost two months past the deadline. She called and they gave her the email address. She, wrote an email, giving the usual deal, that she is moving her business to Emirates and ya know blah blah. They took one day to respond granting her Silver. I will post the email tonight.

Take Care,

Billman

Hi Mogensen,

I have sent you a PM with the details, this was a email sent by Skywards in September, reading the email it qoutes me being a Silver status member (which I was then) so this offer may not have been avalible to all or even just a selected few.

As I said previously... EK does often go out of its way. All I was saying is that awarding silver status when you are LESS than half way there is an exception. If you are around 1-2k miles off, awarding silver status is common practice, and is therefore not really an "exception" by EK - often they will automatically upgrade your status, and if not, it can be done with a simple email.

Asking for status when you are only half way is NOT a common practice, but it is a favour that CAN happen. Another example is an opup. If I get an opup with EK, they are making an exception for me... they don't give everyone an opup. So I can't say that EK will give an opup if you ask them (although they do give lotsss of them)

Cheers :)
