help with seating

Hope someone can help me. My two kids and I are travelling from Johannesburg, South Africa to Dubai and then onto Tokyo and we have been allocated seats 24 A,B and C on the 777-300 and upon return 17 A,B, and C.

From Dubai to Osaka we have seats 19A,B and D and return on the same seats 19A,B and D.

Does anyone have any info on these seats. We are only flying in November so if someone has info on better seats I could try and request I would appreciate whatever information I could get.

Also is the 777-300 the ER?

Hey

Unfortunately the 777-300 is not the ER. However, DXB-KIX is on the A340-500, which is sure to be good.

The seats seem to be ok, nothing great, but nothing bad. Depending on the age of your kids - you might be able to pre hold the bulkhead seats which are much better than the standard ones (especially on the A340-500 which only has a 32" pitch or so vs 34" on the 777)

Another comment -

If you would like to be more comfortable for the JNB-DXB sector, there is an A340-300 operated flight as well (the afternoon one) - the seats will be much wider, and the plane newer, although with slightly less seat pitch. Not worth paying a change fee, but if your ticket allows free changes - it would be more comfortable. I am assuming that you are stopping over in DXB as the afternoon flight from JNB (on the A340-300) is the one that connects on to KIX directly

Cheers

I am sorry to correct you:

The evening flight from JNB to DXB is on the 77W = ER, from December on the afternoon flight too.

Why is the A340-300 a "newer plane"?
I am on this route three times a year amd they use the "old" Singapore Airlines 340-300. Nothing bad, but not new for sure.

Ingrid:
Try to change the seats 24 ABC on the first route, if you are a tall person. All three seats in front of you will have an equipment box under their seats because they are bulkhead/exit row seats (same for row 16 and 38).

Thanks both of you.

dusorduo - thanks for that info. I am 1.7m and my 14yr old son is 1.72. My daughter is 18 but only 1.53m so she will fit in anywhere. Will definitely ask for the seats to be changed on the first route.

Do either of you know whether these flights are always fully booked or not.

The JNB-DXB flights are always full, most times even overbooked.

Hey,

Sorry... I was mistaken and got conflicting information. The EK website states that it will be a 77W, but KVS, the EK office and other sites showed a 773. (I would trust the EK website)

The A340-300 is newer to EK, and therefore is better than the older 773 as the seats are much wider, the PTV screen bigger etc etc - I found it more pleasent, although the 77W is better by far and therefore makes this irrelevant :o

Sorry about that

Cheers

p.s. Yes, the flights are always / mostly fully booked. You might get a few seats empty since you are going before the december rush

My advice was for the B777, where row 16 is the second row in economy.

You are travelling on the A345, I think row 16 is there the bulkhead row, so you will be fine.

whoops!
sorry for the bother then and thanks!

cheers!

Another question about seats

A friend with MS (initial stages) will be traveling in Y from SYD to BKK, then BKK to DXB and DXB to ATH. She needs as much space as she can get to stretch her legs (she's tall), but I'm not sure if her condition means that she's not exit-row qualified. What equipment does EK fly on these routes, and what seats would you recommend?

TIA for your help!

The planes will be a 777-300ER till DXB and an A330 to Athens. I would recommend phoning EK and requesting bulkhead seats, and ask if she qualifies for the exit seats. EK might make an exception and let her prehold the seats

Cheers
