Amex MR points to Skywards being devalued
Have struggled to find well-priced redemptions recently - got this this morning and it's going to be more challenging moving forwards.
Previously you could transfer one Membership Rewards point into the Emirates Skywards programme for one mile. This will be changing on the 19th of August so that four Membership Rewards points will become three Skywards miles. So effectively 1 MR point is now worth 0.75 Skywards miles. A devaluation of 25%. The minimum transfer of 1,000 points is unaffected. |
This seems to be hitting Amex UK accounts. Previously, Australian and New Zealand Amex accounts were hit with devaluation on Emirates transfers.

Yes quite under valued .....

They have also devalued their Skywards and Tier miles by 30%. I guess they are trying to clear the lounges in Dubai and make it harder to upgrade with miles.
|
If they were trying to clear the lounges the tier miles devaluation would have applied to J and F fares too? Think they were only applied to Y fares. I’d imagine elite status holders skew towards J and F travel.
|
I'm thinking about those of us flying in Y but on Silver and Gold Skywards, it becomes much harder to accumulate tier miles. From Cape Town to Europe return on Economy Flex Plus fare I used to get 12500 tier miles and now it is 8800. So retaining Gold (and lounge access outside of Dubai) used to be 4 trips but now it is 6 (I hope my maths is right...it's late).
J and F fares would have access to lounges anyway? |
Precisely, and Y status holders are a minority so “clearing the lounges” can’t be the reason. They aren’t even particularly full, at least not on the routes I fly often.
|
This is only in the UK right? Not in the US (yet at least)?
