Eligibility for Dubai connect
Hi all
i understand that Dubai connect is available for passengers if their connecting flight is 6hrs or more. But can I check if this itinerary qualifies for Dubai connect as I thought of staying 1 night in Dubai before flying home. for Example: LHR -> SIN there’s 2-3 flights per day (depending on schedule) from LHR to DXB. There is connecting time of 5hrs+, but If I chose the connecting period of more then 20hrs or 30hrs base on the options available when booking, will I still get Dubai Connect? because recently i book my flight then I realise there’s this Dubai Connect(under manage booking) for passengers after I make the payment for the air tickets. There’s no where I can check if this particular flight itinerary has Dubai connect correct? thank you |

If your itinerary allows Dubai Connect, it is usually indicated in Manage My Booking (although EK IT is not 100% reliable) I read the T&Cs and understand, there’s 2 criteria 1. for 1st/biz is >6hrs <26hrs and PE/E >10hrs<26hrs and 2. connecting departure to the destination for that day to must be the earliest flight. Example upon arrival at DXB there’s a flight at 1600hrs to X, but chose to take next available flight at 1800hrs to X. This does not qualify. But if take the 1600hrs flight and connecting time from arrival to departure is more then or less then the requirement then I will be eligible. this is what i understand. |

Basically, if you have a connection of over 10 (or 6 for J/F) hours, you qualify for DC (but if it’s more than 26 hours you don’t qualify). They look at the FIRST available flight, you can’t game the system by choosing a later one. Note that there is also a ‘minimum spend’ (I don’t know how much that is), which means that really cheap tickets (like Economy Special) might not qualify. I don’t think the booking page shows this, but I have never really searched for it. In close to 100 connections in DXB I have only once qualified for and used this service. |

I don’t quite understand your example, but if the time between your arriving and the FIRST available departing flight is more than the minimum AND (not ‘or’) less than the maximum, then you qualify for Dubai Connect. If you choose to take a later departing flight, you DON’T qualify.

There’s 2 flight from Singapore to Dubai (0050hrs & 0140hrs), I am on the 1st flight 0050hrs and connecting time is 6hrs 15min. Manage My Booking prompt me DC is available to me. Connecting flight to Sofia from Dubai there’s only 1 flight. So in this case it quite straight forward. If I were to chose the later flight (0140hrs) out from Singapore the connecting time will be less then 6hrs (J class). So I suppose this option will not qualify for DC. So I’m trying this on my future flights so I can get a complimentary night in Dubai for shopping. Yes the booking page don’t show till you have make payment. |
If a shorter connection on the same day is available, even at a higher fare (but in the same class) you are not eligible for DC, even if the shorter connection requries you to take a later departing flight from your point of origin. Searching the itinerary on the emirates website will indicate if it is eligible for DC

If, after selecting your flights, you click on the “View Summary “ box in the right top corner it will show you “This itinerary qualifies for Dubai Connect” (or something like that). I discovered this by accident a few days ago.

an example of an itinerary that is likely to qualify is Sialkot - Copenhagen. there is one flight per day sialkot - dubai, dubai-copenhange, and a 9 hour stop over qualifies. what doesn't qualify is e.g., jakarta - istanbul flights are: jakarta - dubai 00:15 arrive 05:30; 17:35 arr. 23:00 dubai - istanbul 09:15 arrive 13:20; 12:10 arr. 16:15 in this case the 17:35 flight costs $200 ('saver') and the 00:15 $1000 ('flex plus'). that doesn't matter. the availability of the 3:45 connection on the 00:15 means the neither the 00:15 nor the 17:15 qualify. and if you buy the $1000 flex plus fare for the 17:35 flight, it won't qualify you. there needs to be no suitable connection at all, the price doesn't appear to be particularly important. |

IME, EK has not been very strict in implementing the 'shortest connection' rule for Dubai Connect lately. Was on EK032 -> EK502 (506 is the shortest connection) and just booked another EK503->EK241 (509 is the shortest connection) and got Dubai Connect for both.
