Emerites business to first upgrade using miles
 

Help,
I am flying in April from HND to JFK through Dubai. I have used points to book my business class tickets. I have the required points to be upgraded to First but the web site will not let me and says that I am on standby. Any suggestions or life experience someone could help me out with?

Hello spitz, welcome to FlyerTalk and the Emirates forum in particular.
From what you say, it would appear that there is currently no upgrade availability in First on the flight you are booked on. It is almost impossible to predict if or when award space (which is where upgrades come from as well) will be made available. You mention that you are on standby, which is unusual. Normally I would advise to set an alert and / or phone the call centre every now and then to see if there is availability.

Since you're on an award ticket, that's probably why you don't see/get any availability. I would not count on any upgrade access until you check in at the airport.

It's rare to see that as J-F upgrades are not generally available when booking.
