Bassinet size limit
 

I’ll be travelling in emirates later this year with my then 14 month old. Emirates says if they are under 2 they will be provided a bassinet which I’ve confirmed and reserved the bulkhead. I am asking if there is a size limit. The baby is quite tall and fairly heavy and could be very possible that they’ll be bigger than the average two year old when I travel

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but there is no way that your 14 month old will a) fit in a bassinet and b) be safe . If a child can sit up then it is not safe to be in a bassinet. At 14 months the safest bet is to buy the child it's own seat and bring an approved car seat or a CARES harness to use on the flight.

I think I agree here. I have a now 11 month old grandson who is 50th percentile (i.e. average size). He just ‘fitted’ a bassinet three months ago, no way he would today. Your 14 moth old will most likely be a ‘lap child’ if you don’t buy him / her an own seat.

Also take note that bassinets are not guaranteed and the crew may decide that your child is not suitable for the bassinet and not provide one. So for various reasons you may end up with your child on your lap the entire flight as others have pointed out. Although not on EK we had a bad experience on QR last year where we confirmed the bassinet with the airline through our travel agent it even had "bsct" printed on the boarding pass, however our seat was given away to another family with a child upon check in.
