EVA or Emirates?
All booked in J using miles, except for the first leg, I am currently booked YVR-SEA-DXB-KUL with AC on the first leg and Emirates for the remainder, returning on ANA. AC has changed my flight to SEA creating a 7 hour layover in SEA. Alternatives offered include YVR-TPE-KUL with EVA or connecting via Tokyo with AC/ANA or all ANA. I have flown both EVA (very impressed) and ANA TPAC previously but have never flown Emirates, though the Emirates flights are all on B777 and not the A380 and I have read negative reviews regarding the B777 hard product.
Just looking for input from anybody having flown Emirates B777 vs EVA as to which is better. Journey length is of little concern, though being 6’5” the lie-flat comfort will be a factor, more is the pain of being stuck in the united club in SEA for 6 hours worth the hassle to experience Emirates. This will be in the middle of November so not worth the hassle of venturing into the city for a few hours. Thanks for any advice. |
Even Emirates 380 J wouldn’t be worth an extra 5 hours in the air.

I'd go with EVA. I don't mind Emirates' 777 seats which are slightly slanted but most people do. Lounges in DXB can get really crowded. I would take the TPAC route for sure.

TPAC either EVA or ANA. Obviously dont get duped into AC metal to Tokyo.

EK J soft product is consistently good. However, their hard product is underwhelming/dated in my opinion. These days, i'd either pony up the miles to fly their "Game Changer" F (if available) or, in OP's case, go with BR/NH (of note, not a fan of J hard product on their 787s - its "the room" or nothing). BR seems to be your best bet.

As others have said the extra 6 hours layover will not make up for any differences between Emirates J and ANA/EVA

My $0.02: Unless you were planning to spend some time in Dubai I'd choose the EVA or ANA option. Unless it's "the Room" or strong preference for Japanese meals I'd go with EVA over ANA. I have never slept comfortably in ANA J (something about the seat width and hardness of the seat just doesn't work for me) whereas had great sleep on EVA and find that service levels are comparable.

EVA is awesome. great soft/hard product esp the Royal Salute scotch :) and the hot sauce in oil . TPE is a nice airport with a very good lounge where you can shower and get refreshed.
|
Isn't EVA 1-2-1 in J? That itself is more than enough reason to choose EVA over EK 2-3-2 77W J
|
BR all day long, their 777 J is in a different league to EK 777 J.
|
Sorry but EK J on 777 is terrible. EVA all the way or ANA as second oprion.
|
Definitely EVA! Usually fantastic food, and sometimes Le Grande Dame is flowing.
|
Another vote for EVA/ANA and save some time to enjoy your destination, versus going the long route. I would go EK only if ticketed in F to enjoy abit longer time in EK F.
|
EK 777 J seat is not as good as EVA's. I vote for EVA AIR!

I would go with EVA on this on.
Just FYI: - SEA-DXB would most likely be on the newer lie flat J seats, these quite nice although 2-3-2 config doesn't compete with 1-2-1. I've slept pretty well on these. I like the quilted leather finish as it's cool to the touch. The mini ottoman/ledge on the forward seat gives extra length, too. Crews on US West Coast destinations are always great in my experience. - DXB-KUL would most likely be on the previous J seats. Slight angle and not great on an overnighter for sleep. |
