7 Hours In DXB

Hi All
I leave tomorrow on my first EK flight- I am flying in J from SFO to DXB and then my connection to MAA in F (my AMEX points transfer got me the upgrade).

I land at 7:25 PM and leave at 2:50 AM. Curious, how you would all spend that time? I want to start regulating to the 12.5 hour time difference as soon as I can.

Would you visit both lounges (I assume I have access to the First Class lounge)? Explore the airport to move a bit? Are the massages a great experience? Do you need cash for gratuities?

the EK forum has been super helpful. thank you!

Visit all three J lounges in Dubai (Concourse A, B, and C.) Walk around and explore the terminals.

Not Anymore unfortunately.

Seeing that te OP is departing in F, he has access to the F lounges. So by all means visit both the A concourse and the B concourse lounges. Depending on the time of day you are there, have one or two meals. I find the food in the lounges significantly better than on board, so don’t hold back! Don’t bother about the C concourse lounge, its hugely disappointing.

Never tried the massage myself, but in your case I would certainly book one. Do this early on as you may only get a slot a few hours later.

No gratuities, this is not the USA.

Thanks! I get in around 7:30 PM. Will definitely explore as I will need to move. Appreciate the note on gratuities. I am careful outside the US, but I have found that at locations where a lot of US travelers frequent, expectations change.

I won't hold back!

Last question- I have seen various posts, where it looks like I may have to get my bags and recheck in. I haven't seen anything about that on my reservation or website.

Will my bags be checked through?

Plenty of opportunity to ‘move’. Especially the A concourse lounge is massive, it spans the entire length of the terminal.

If your layover is less than 24 hours, your bags will automatically be checked through to your final destination. The check in agent at SFO will (or at least should) also confirm this to you.
No worries!

Have a great trip, and perhaps share with us how did you pass your 7 hours at DXB ...
Did you manage to visit both F lounges ?! (concourse A 'bigger with its own duty free' & concourse B and 'Moet champagne bar in J lounge opposite ;) ')
What did you enjoy the most and what was perhaps less impressive ...
Some a la carte dishes require a little longer to prepare, perfect opportunity to take some time between each course, and if you enjoy wine you'll be able to find some high quality and rather pricey bottles...
Shower area is nothing special but more than adequate and extremely clean.
Make the most of it while there, shorter Emirates routes in premium and F class tend to be somewhat less impressive although just as comfortable.
Personally what I find challenging during a longer layover in DXB is finding a comfortable secluded place for some R&R after enjoying the delicious meal.
That aside always a great experience.
If interested in having a complimentary 15 min Spa treatment, my advice is go find and reserve the best available time that suits you first and then go on "exploring".
Also as previously mentioned your bags should be checked through to your final destination, but for your peace of mind you can always confirm that when checking in.
Keep an eye for your departure gate location to allow yourself enough time to get there since there are no flight announcements in F lounge and no pick up/escort service for First Class passengers either ...

Note that the Moet bar is in the J lounge rather than the F lounge in Concourse B. Well worth a visit though :)

Not that you can't get Moët in the F lounges, but I agree it's worth a visit. And as the OP is wanting to 'move' it would help as said Moët bar (choice of 4 different varieties) is right at the far end of the B concourse J lounge. It has the added advantage of usually being pretty quiet compared to the rest of that lounge which is another reason I like it (when flying J, which is usual)
