Shame!! I'm hoping to travel end June/ Early July ....... Hope they start their other flight. Not opening the EK lounge in JNB is baffling

Some additional flights have been scheduled to coincide with the end of Ramadan:
EK662 MLE will operate daily from May 1-8, on the 77W (MLE 5 times daily during this period)
EK855 KWI resumes on the 77W, effective May 2
EK875 KWI operates on May 1, 6, and 7, on the 77W
EK877 KWI operates on May 6 and 7, on the 77W (KWI operating 4-5 times daily during this period)
EK2809 MED operates daily from May 1-7 on the 77W
EK2813 RUH operating May 2 and May 8, on the 77W (RUH operating 4 times daily on these days)
EK2823 DMM operates May 1, 4, 6, and 8 on the 77W
EK2831 JED operating from May 1-5, on the 77W (JED operating 4 times daily during this period)

You're exactly right. ORD is a massive cargo destination for EK, so would likely justify the use of 2 77W flights per day in lieu of a single daily A380. As you probably already know, the A380 is usually volume limited when it comes to carrying freight because of the number of passenger bags carried making the 77W advantageous for freight operations. Up until just recently, there were usually 2 77W flights per day with one being a 'preighter' flight with an early morning departure ex-DXB and a morning return ex-ORD. I believe this has now shifted to a dedicated freighter 77F that operates direct or via an intermediary point in Europe.

No lounge access at all in JNB? At least a food voucher or something? Departing in F next week…

CaptainEKAirbus Do you know whats happening to Doha? A few days ago it was possible to at least book them under fly dubai on EK now it seems to have dropped the route all togeather? Is EK planning the route for the worldcup or do you think it will miss out on the traffic?

Looks like GLA will be EK main destination (e.g. usage of A380 or increase to double daily) in Scotland before EDI might be come back.

DUB is currently planned to go double daily from July* ("*Anything April 1 and beyond is highly subject to change.")
I suspect that so long as loads come back to a good level and back to double daily at GLA, then EDI might be back in 2023. I'd be surprised if it comes back this year. Interestingly EDI is the only route in the UK that EK hasn't restarted (yet).

I was hoping for the Doha flights to resume as well, surely soon for the World Cup? Although last time we flew the 737Max and it was actually more comfortable than the other 737's they fly.

EDI was a very recent addition to EK's network (Oct 2018), which they started right the day after EY dropped the route.
QR has been serving EDI for much longer, but never went to GLA.

Dur

I see the Durban flights now route directly from dxb to dur from tomorrow(no longer via jnb) , but I see it's no longer 7 days a week I only searched for next week) Any idea when it will go back to 7 days? It's such a shame demand hasn't returned

bkk no longer a380?

Anyone know what happened to bkk? They were originally going to increase a380 frequency, now it looks like it’s gone altogether from june onwards? I paid a lot extra to get on an a380 now it’s gone. Thailand has opened up a lot more, would think demand would be rising?

372 is the only current a380 flight but yes quite strange seeing as all remaining covid rules are set to be axed by 1st June. I’d find a new airline if it remains like that.

A few pending updates:
EK43 FRA resumes on the 77W, effective Jul 1 (FRA will be 3 times daily)
EK47 FRA downgraded to the 77W, effective May 15
EK97 FCO upgraded to the 380, effective Jul 1
EK322 ICN upgraded to the 380, effective Jun 1
EK354 SIN upgraded to the 380, effective Jul 1 (To be confirmed, not yet loaded)
EK372 BKK downgraded to the 77W, effective Jun 1
EK761 JNB upgraded to the 380, effective Jul 1
EK817 RUH upgraded to the 380, effective Jul 1 (To be confirmed, not yet loaded)

Lots more schedules changes will likely be pushed through in the next two weeks.

Still restricted to 3x daily flights for each QR and FZ. It would sure make a lot of sense to allocate those frequencies over to EK for that period, but I haven't heard of that occurring.

It's temporarily downgraded to the 777 from June 1 through June 30, then resumes on a 2-class A380 for July, and scheduled to return to a 3-class A380 for August. There's some crew limitations right now which I think are forcing them to rejig a few plans in the short-term.

is EK761 operating a couple hours earlier from May 9? That's what it's showing on a google search - arriving JNB 8:55 am?

Indeed. Probably to do with EK762 having a technical stop in Durban since 1 May as announced by EK last week:

"Due to the ongoing fuel shortage in Johannesburg, EK762 schedule has been adjusted from 01May – 08May to allow for a technical stopover in Durban for fuelling.
Johannesburg Flight Schedule EK762 (01May – 08May 2022)
EK762 01May22-08May22 1/2/3/4/5/6/7 Johannesburg Durban 11:55 13:05
EK762 01May22-08May22 1/2/3/4/5/6/7 Durban Dubai 14:35 00:55"

So seems to be extended beyond 8 May and both EK761 and 762 timings changed.

I saw that too. Cant decide if it’s better or worse. Maybe a bit better. Ideally I’d just like the 2300 departure and 0500 arrival reinstated.

Ah yes. Makes sense.
