I do hope EK doesn’t follow suit with cancellations of flights to Southern Africa ? Any inside information please ??

All kinds of bans coming in from UK/ EU

From November 29th (Monday), inbound passengers and transit passengers from 7 countries won't be accepted until further notice.

The seven countries are:
  • Botswana
  • Eswatini
  • Lesotho
  • Mozambique
  • Namibia
  • South Africa
  • Zimbabwe

Seems this might be obvious, but if they aren't going to be accepted for inbounds or transfers, does that mean flights TO those destinations, specifically SA, are canceled?

From the EK website:

“Customers travelling from Dubai into the countries listed above, are not impacted by this directive, and can continue to fly as booked. All travellers are strongly advised to check the travel requirements for their final destination.”

Emirates still continued to fly to SA even when the borders were "closed". They would just carry cargo in and out of SA.

Not sure where you are quoting this from, tried looking on EK site, but from what I gathered from CaptainEKAirbus comment was that this was something they are getting ready to implement and would not be reflected on website yet...???

I suppose I was more concerned with actual PAX and not cargo. So would you say then that if they will not allow PAX FROM SA, then they will not fly PAX TO SA. Or are you saying they will fly PAX TO SA and then fly cargo FROM SA??

There’s a banner at the top of the page on the site. On the app too (iOS it’s at the bottom). I got an email notification as well, presumably because I have a trip back to JNB soon.

Or maybe I just made up a quote for kicks. That’s plausible too, I guess 🙄.

Didn't see it on my banner...but switched my location to UK and then new(different) banner pops up. THX!

And acctually just switched my location to South Africa and now see even another banner. Quite intresting. Might be helpful if EK posted ALL of these notices somewhere from one single location. Guess I'm not sure howto find it if my location is stated as US?

I’m pretty sure there is one page with all current travel advisories.

UAE and Qatar don't want to end up on the European "Red List" again... hence the quick move to stop flights from Southern Arica.

I see it says

"Affected customers do not need to call us immediately for rebooking. Customers can simply hold on to their Emirates ticket and when flights resume, get in touch with their travel agent or booking office to make new travel plans."

Wondering what this might mean.
1. Your tickets won't be canceled. Whenever flights resume, if your ticket date hasn't passed, your ticketed flight will be and is still valid..

2. Basically all tickets to and from those destinations are canceled and will need to be rebooked. But how far out are tickets auto-canceled.

Hoping my flight on March 19th isn't canceled. Seeing as things may and most certainly will change again, for the better hopefully.
