Buy miles at up to 45% off

I received an email today allowing miles to be bought at up to 45% off before 1st May. I think earlier offers were up to 30 to 35% off.
It seems a good offer. Here are brief details:
  • 45% off on 25,000 Miles and above
  • 30% off on 11,000 to 24,000 Miles
  • 15% off on 3,000 to 10,000 Miles

I was thinking the same... too bad EK Golds don't get the additional 25% off

This must be targeted promo. Neither mine or any of my colleagues get this discount when logging into account

It does say "a 45% discount exclusively for you". If somebody else has also got the offer, I'll be most offended!

Running the numbers... UK-BKK flight Y + points upgrade - £627 for a flex+ seat IOT achieve an upgrade for 54,000 miles which would cost £656 at the "discounted" price plus £98 in additional taxes = £1381

Purchasing a Business saver for the same flight costs £1324, which includes CD and obviously earns more miles on the flight. Thanks for the great offer EK.

Math doesn't work for that pair.

Originating out of DXB, however, the math can make sense where the delta between Y and lowest J is much wider.

But the offer was supposed to be “exclusive to me” and that is a flight I take monthly... 😅

I went for it... £1215 for 100k miles is pretty good.

For a MAN-DXB return flight in J, it works out at £1093 (90k points) + £335 = £1428.

The cash cost is £2458.

So, £1000 saving give or take.

The other issue of course is that award seats must be available. At the moment the availability might possibly be quite good, but you do take your chances. Agree though that £1000 is worth saving.
Was there no upper limit on the number of miles for sale? I have deleted my email so I cannot check. Have quite a lot of miles anyway, so was not really interested.

The other thing to take into account is that EK will probably bump up the "surcharges" again once the world gets back to some sort of normality. A UK-DXB reward was > £800 in taxes and surcharges before Covid.

What I found interesting is after buying my max of 200k I could also buy to gift at the 45% discount for other skyward members up to their own limit 100k or 200k.
