Chargeback

I applied for a refund in March and then again in April per guidance. When nothing came I filed a chargeback.

Today I got this email from Emirates.

We are in receipt of your refund request; however we are unable to process refund as we have received a charge back from your card issuing bank on purchase transaction of the ticket. Kindly liaise with your card issuing bank to settle the dispute. This is a system generated email. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY.
Does this mean the chargeback won't be disputed from Emirates' end and it'll go through? Or do I risk at this point not getting a refund if they're saying no but the chargeback is also denied if they're going to fight it somehow as we've seen some airlines doing?

This was for a refundable fare booked in March when all fares are refundable.

Feeling nervous now!

you have call your bank before the refund is done by emirates?

I would do nothing.

If EK agrees with you that you should get the refund, then EK can agree on the chargeback.

If EK wants to refund to you by its own, EK can tell that to the bank.

It seems like they've put a stop to then refunding me directly, so hopefully they agree to the chargeback then. Given its it's a refundable ticket, I don't see how they could disagree!

as my guess, airline is asking to pay the handling charge for the ticket refund from your bank. in normal the refund handling charge will bill to you credit card, have you call your bank before for something like I need to request refund on the credit card before emirates process the refund? as some bank will have a extra charge on this case

I just phoned amex. They said that Emirates DID try to dispute the chargeback (!! -- it is a refundable ticket!!) BUT they deemed it as not good enough and have found in my favour. So my refund is now "official" via the chargeback. Happy with that.

so you have call amex before for asking to get refund? as what my friend told me, credit card will be charge the shop for some number if the customer do this. What the normal refund I get from emirates will be have a around 1-2% different on the ticket price as per the exchange rate and some handling fee for the card center. I don't know how it work on amex

FWIW Emirates probably wanted to refund the monies but did not the charge back to come through as well thus paying twice. At this point it is moot.

Reading the OP's comment from American Express, it doesn't seem that way, given that it tried to dispute the chargeback request

If it had wanted to refund the money it could have done that 2+ months ago

Amex didn't tell me under what grounds Emirates tried to dispute a refund of what was a refundable fare (and I had a confirmation email where Emirates stated clearly they were refunding the full value within 14 days, from March!), but I am certainly glad they sided with me on this one!

I applied for a refund with Emirates (via Expedia) a few weeks ago. This was done over the phone because my flight was canceled by the airline. The agent on the phone said a refund would be processed (up to several weeks).

HOWEVER, I have received an e-mail from Expedia that says I am due to receive 'airline credit' which I did not agree to. Is this an automated e-mail or should I start a chargeback process with AMEX?

I would wait until I saw what turned up. Credit could mean credit to your bank or CC account, but you probably won't know until something appears.
