Mixed cabin using Emirates miles or how?

Agent walks me through how to book "mixed cabin" on emirates site. But each time under "advanced search" I picked JFk-DXB Economy and Dxb-Singapore in Business class. The website keeps saying: Sorry, we were unable to price the selected itinerary. Please try different dates or contact your local Emirates office for assistance.

is this not possible to do it online then and I have to call back in? Or there's another way to do this?

Not possible. You can book outbound in one class and inbound in another, but not split part way through like you're trying. The way to achieve it would be to buy a single ticket in Economy from JFK-DXB and another single ticket, this time in Business Class, from DXB-SIN, but this would probably be very expensive.

The (only) other way to do this, is via an upgrade. But that of course assumes that there is availability and that you have sufficient skywards miles to do this. You buy an economy ticket and the upgrade the sector that you want to be in business. To find availability you would have to try a ‘classic awards’ dummy booking for the sector you want to upgrade as this comes from the same inventory. Or look for ‘D’ bucket availability on ExpertFlyer.

I know this is an old thread, but I am running into an issue and this might be a solution.

I am trying to fly US-DXB-MLE (or reverse) and can find the seat on the long haul in F that I want, but on the DXB-MLE flight there is only business currently available. Since I can't do a mixed award and I don't want to downgrade to Biz for the long haul, this might be the answer. From what I am reading, I can book the full itinerary in J and then immediately upgrade the long haul segment to F? I can then keep an eye out for the shorter leg and upgrade if it opens up at some point, if not, do the 4 hr flight in J. Does this sound correct to anyone who understands how EK works?

If this does work, I can book the flight online and then call in to do the upgrade? Is there anything else I need to know about this?

This will be my first time flying EK, something I have been wanting to try for a while. I am hoping I will get lucky and get to try out the new F somehow (was on DXB-MLE route at one point, not sure if it still is) but I can live with the 380 (and compare it to EY F apartments I flew a few years back)

Thanks for any help anyone can offer!

Yes book the full flight in J and upgrade the first part to F as soon as possible to get the seat. Keep checking for availability for the second flight and if it becomes available call EK and get them to book you both flights in F as this will use less miles than if you book them both separately.

Is it possible to book an F award ORD-DXB, and a separate J award DXB-MLE, and ask the agent to link the PNRs to create a connecting itinerary, with the passengers showing as transiting through DXB rather than entering the UAE?

Follow up on this? I am also curious if this is possible or if anyone was able to do this. For upcoming trip.

Ty in advance

I find it absurd that it appears impossible to book a paid (one way in my case) two sector ticket in two different classes i.e. F first sector, J second sector. Unless I'm missing something it's crazy IMHO.
