It used to be a stated benefit before they did the website redesign... looks like it's gone now? Still, the anecdata supports this is true.

Not specific to EK, to the best of my knowledge check in (counters) for a flight will open 4 hours prior to scheduled time. so that would be the earliest you can check your bags.

In principle you are correct, but with so many EK flights out of LHR daily (is it 6?), I would expect the check in counters to be continuously open. If they will accept luggage for a (much) later flight I can't say. In any case, wasting 2 times an hour travelling by tube between Central London and LHR seems a worse option than doing what you already propose: leaving the luggage at your hotel or a luggage storage facility.

I'm trying to book flights from Brussels to Johannesburg the first days of April, but most flights are completely sold out in Economy and others only have flex+ tickets available. What is the reason for this? Easter Holidays? Is there a possibility that regular flex or even Saver will come back online?

There are fare filed for BRUJNB for travel in early April when checking in GDS - if flights are already closed in saver and flex this early on, I'd say it's unlikely they will open up.

The problem is the BRU/DXB leg. But it appears that on 1 April there is Q (highest saver) availability on 184/761 and on 2 April in U bucket (second lowest flex). After that it seems Flex+ only.

Thank you for this! Much appreciated! On second thoughts we will do the outbound flight to CPT with QR and only do the inbound from JNB!

Paid Upgrade DXB—IAD

Two friends are flying EK231 DXB-IAD. Any data points out there for pay to upgrade to J? What is a reasonable price tag? They booked saver tix. Mileage upgrades are not an option. One received an offer for $2300, but seems high to me. Not overly familiar with EK though. Thanks!

Upgrade onboard will be 2000+usd. Email/online check in offers should be lower than that. What is the 2300usd you quoted? Email offer?
