1. 1st time travelling on emirates, and came across some discussion on this forum that Emirates sometimes do offer upgrades for a minimal/attractive fee if their biz class is quite empty when it is close to departing date or even departure time. So does this mean I can sit and wait to receive this email as long as I keep seeing a lot of empty biz class seats through Expedia?

2. If I do go for the cash upgrade, am I entitled to lounge access, chauffeur drive and other benefits that comes along with a full fare business class? Because the cheapest business class ticket by emirates does not offer lounge access and chauffeur, correct me if I'm wrong as I've made the booking a week ago.

3. I have a connection time of 1hour 40 mins in dubai for my onward flight to AMS. Should there be a delay on the flight to dubai and ended up missing the onward flight to AMS, how likely is it that I will be offered an upgrade or lounge access for the next available flight to AMS?

Thank you fellow travellers!
1. As far as I know, discounted offers are only sent to those booked direct
2. No CDD CDA nor lounge access
3. No chance

Thanks for the reply.

1. I booked direct with Emirates, but there was no way to see how 'empty' is business class through official Emirates website before the payment stage, which is why i go to Expedia which actually can view seats availability before paying.

Noted for no. 2 and 3. And i like the term "no chance" which means zero expectations of it happening.

Sorry my bad. Then yes you should be eligible to receive an offer. I've had offers of 500 euros on dxbams.

1. It’s not entirely clear what you mean by ‘was offered a cash upgrade’. I assume it was not the offer one gets sometimes at on line check in. That one is far from guaranteed and if you really want to fly in business, I don’t think you should hold out for that in any way. Yes, those offers are made from time to time, but it is quite unclear who gets them and if / when they are made.

2. It is not clear to me into which fare bucket this ‘cash upgrade’ that you have been offered would book. If it is into the lowest one (H), there is indeed no chauffeur drive, lounge access or seat selection. You should ask whoever it was offering the upgrade.

3. If you miss the connection, you will be put on the next available flight in the same class of service, no upgrade or lounge access. If the next flight is more than 8 hours later, you might be offered hotel accommodation in Dubai.

Note that you can use the free version of ExpertFlyer to check seating.

skywardhunter told me about this a while back.

Hi, anyone has any tips on my earlier question about Emirates policy for checked through luggage on 2 separate EK tickets? Thanks

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe you should be able to call in and link the 2 itineraries together since it's on the same airline and tell them you will want to check in luggage from the origin until the end destination. I don't see why they shouldn't be able to check the luggage straight through on their own airline. Probably best would have been to book the fare on one record but I guess everyone has their way of doing stuff.

Sorry, forgot to answer that one. Yes, they will check through, providing its a ‘valid’ connection from an MCT point of view (and less than 24 hours).

This is not BA, where they won’t check through on different bookings on the same airline. EK will do it, just show both reservations.

OP mentioned that he's looking at a 2 hour layover in DXB so that part shouldn't be an issue. So they should have no issue checking through otherwise since its the same airline.

I think he means the email sometimes sent 3 or 4 days ahead of the flight. If that's the case, the email specifically says no lounge and no chauffeur drive and like the check in offer, is far from guaranteed. Also, IME it's only for one flight at a time, although I have had separate emails to make it possible over a full outbound or inbound.

No its not the email a few days before the departure. My flight is few months away, so what I was mentioning is the upgrade available for purchase in manage my booking. There was no mention of the benefits that came with the upgrade i.e. Chaffeur drive, lounge access, miles, seat selection etc which is why I try to look for some answers here.

I read it the same away (email offers), in that case ignore my earlier reply.

Upgrading through MMYB is a bad idea as you'll be charged a change fee which it shouldnt since you upgrade to a higher cabin (even if its only 1 way). Call in.

If you upgrade to H class , no cdd cda nor lounge. If O class and above, you will get the benefits.
