Silver renewal? £300
Hi, whats the likelyhood of Being offered another silver tier for £300/€300?
I got the offer last march and my one is due to finish. Also my brother got offered silver tier but he didnt take it. Will he be offered another one in 2020? Thanks |
I can’t answer your question. But I would like to know what benefit Silver will give you that you’re willing to pay £300 for?
|
I don't even think I would pay £300 for Gold never mind silver. It is quite easy to reach silver status. If it is not achievable due to a lack of flying, is it really worth paying £300 for?

Lots of people work 30/30 rotations or 60/30 rotations so pass through DXB 8-12 times a year. A lot of these people still don't even get to Silver status if their employer normally buys them Savers. I know quite a few people in this predicament.
If you pass through 8-12 times a year and have long layovers, it may well be worth £300. For instance MNL-LAD return (a fairly lengthy trip) only nets 3900 Skywards points. If you work 30/30 you will pass through DXB every month but remain Blue and collect 23,400 tier points annually. As LAD only has one flight five times a week and MNL only has two dailys, the quickest route has a 4h 40min stop in DXB both directions. I might pay £300 annually to avoid spending 48 hours a year walking around DXB killing time. The miniscule miles multiplier, prioritised check in and boarding and extra baggage would all be a bonus. |
Does Silver get you automatic business upgrades for either sale prices or free.. or is this really a long shot in emirates flights?
|
Certainly not automatic upgrades, maybe a slight advantage for operational upgrades but in reality little benefit if any.

Well, if you were flying on a North American airline, you probably would. A different business model / practice which I am happy EK does not follow! ^ (which lots of our American brethren find impossible to understand)

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious but there's more to silver the just DXB lounge access. I recently helped a friend with bookings and airport check-in at LHR for a trip to HKG. He had to pay for advance seat selection x4 for the four sectors he's flying, plus the check-in at LHR took nearly an hour. I get none of that nonsense as silver. It would be worth it to me to pay the £300 if I had no other option.

Agree 100%. Add priority boarding (especially of interest to get overhead storage space) to the list of benefits too!
It's extremely rare not to have enough storage space, even in economy, and I have never had a desire to spend longer than needed sat in an enclosed space... |

One benefit I never use is priority boarding.
