Can this be for real??
OK I know there are two sides to every story. But, in a nutshell. Customer upgrades himself from economy to business to First class. Twice. Ignores the crew members. Then both verbally AND physically assaults the crew member.
Customer (rightly) arrested. And crew member SUSPENDED? https://thepointsguy.co.uk/news/pass...s-up-in-court/ https://www.khaleejtimes.com/news/cr...to-first-class Jeez |

EK doesn't have a strong employee protection policy that people in the west are used too. Maybe EK thought she didn't deal with the situation correctly. Go over to pprune and read some of the comments by EK employees (mainly pilots and some CC) - though some of the comments are clearly over exaggeration about doom and gloom, but it is interesting read about working conditions and so forth.

Nothing would surprise me here. Employee protections are limited to zero in Dubai.

Yes anywhere in the middle east someone with influence always have priority over normal staff. I saw an incident on QR once when a couple of Arab ladies in economy decided to promote themselves to the business class. Business class had the last row empty and they just walked up and lay down and put on a blanket and pretended to sleep. Eventually the crew discovered it and forced them to move back. They had a bit of a time trying to "wake" them up.

Not that I think suspension was appropriate anyway, from the information here suspension on full pay would have been a better option than suspension on no pay. A supposition of innocence of any fault is reasonable given what we know.

Right or wrong take the rough with the smooth. If you want better employment law protection go home and work for a lower salary. |
