Thanks for the link. For a Dubai-based member with limited time, I guess the best option is MCT-BAH/KWI plus a positioning flight. I am seeing options in either direction in the AED 6,500-7,000 range for flex. BAH/MCT-IST for even less. TRV, AMD, and CCU -- the only Indian destinations -- come up a bit more in my cursory search, as to the Pakistan destinations. Didn't do better on other non-premium-heavy destinations like CEB, CRK, or CMB.
Adding in the mini-vacation (including lounges in DXB) and mileage-run value, might be worth considering. |
Clearly a Gold skywards devaluation instigated by EK!! Do the few incremental new J Flex/Flex+ Return bookings for summer time (when there is a slow down, less business travelers , low season in Middle East) justify the devaluation of their program? It Doesn’t make sense unless its part of a broader strategy Skywards overall - ie., the New Business special with no lounge, no CD, etc... Obviously the number of people that will book J flex EK return deliberated for this benefit will be minimal... but then there is a bunch people that werent even aware of this before hand and will turn Gold with one flight which is a good deal! It would be great to see the outcome on of how many new fast track to gold they got since the ticket purchase window is narrow (wont allow future change dates) and period of traveling too.. (ofc we wont ever know) but I Would guess that majority of the people whom can have this benefit this will be UAE residents as @mecabq said above... 6K AED (1.4K EUR) flight from MCT-BAH/KWI and/or from IKA . Such a great opportunity for ones the whom lost Gold or really want it but from other hand a sad to see a own EK devaluation of a great program, which is never positive. Most people will not reposition to MCT just in order to obtain Gold for Dhs6k on an itinerary they don't need to fly in the first place. Gold isn't worth that much, and to most people it's not worth Dhs6k 4. I also hope they honour your Plat renewal |

If you have failed to reach the renewal criterion of 150k, then there is no reason to be disappointed if it chooses not to renew - this would surely be the expected situation where a clearly defined criterion is specified ; if it would be an extreme disappointment, perhaps might be worth taking a flight to get the remaining points and then meeting the requirement rather than gambling on being renewed despite meeting the requirement |

Thats the same reason why outside the aviation space, a premium brand never goes on sale or offer 'promos' specifically for that reason - devalue perception. Yes its a all about perception since as one said there are no changes on the service I get. Same reason why they wont upgrade a pax to the next class cabin just because they have free seats there... |

I agree with the frustrations this offer provides, I think it is a kick in the face to all those who travel frequently and have earned their status and it a direct contradiction of the fact you cannot normally purchase tier miles but only air miles. Here is an example -
TUN-MCT a economy Flex+ can be purchased for around 850 quid (return) TUN-MCT a business flex can be purchased for around 1350 quid (return) So in effect someone can purchase Gold for the sake of 500 quid. So what happens on future overbooked flights? Two gold members both on Flex+ economy tickets and there is one op-up required.. Yes an extreme example, but a possibility nonetheless. |
