Welcome to Your Emirates Skywards Questions Answered - 2017/2018

Skywards is the Frequent Flyer Programme (FFP) for Emirates Airlines. There are many ways of collecting and spending miles as well as attaining status within the membership programme and different levels of status bring with it certain benefits. Sometimes FFP's can be confusing and we all find ourselves with a question at times relating to membership or how to spend, how to collect, where to spend, where to collect, what benefits come with membership etc.

From the Emirates Skywards Web Page:

Make the Most of Every Mile with Emirates Skywards. Our award-winning frequent flyer programme costs nothing to join and will change the way you see the world forever. It’s simpler than ever before to apply and begin collecting more Miles more quickly in even more ways. Membership gives you the chance to earn and spend Miles with Emirates and flydubai, as well as with our wide selection of partners. Enhance your travel experience with benefits and services that make every trip more rewarding.

Indeed. Officially, I think the answer is no. One or two people is usually no problem, but the 'von Trapps' would be taking it a bit far!

Operational (free) upgrades to not get such benefits, so an op-up from J to F would not get F lounge access.
Aha ok. Thanks for clarifying

hah thanks guys, it’s just my parents who are determined to see Kuwait, even though I’ve tried to convince them to just stay in Dubai - so I’m escorting them back and forth 😂 EK A380 J to and from LGW to DXB will spoil them - thought a bit of EK realness in Y intra-gulf would be fun!

Some quick questions for my first time in DXB airport coming up! I have an early morning (8am) short haul J departure (under 2 hours) after 1.5 days work in Dubai and thinking about upgrading to the F lounge over J for $105 USD for the experience. I will be jet lagged so showing up at 3am to "maximize" the experience is fine, and my hotel is nothing fancy. Questions:

1) Overall worth it to try it out for 4 hours?

2) If I'm a lounge "upgrade" pax, am I still eligible for shoeshine and complementary spa treatment? I will be in need of a shoeshine anyway, and in DXB thats already going to set me back! 2a) Will those services be available at 4am?

3) Anything else not to miss if I do it? Breakfast salmon look tasty.

edit to add: 4) Is 4 hours billed as from your departure time, from your boarding time, or from the time you walk in the door? That is, when should I show up?

Thanks!

Yes - Emirates have a box at the Emirates Stadium, and you can use Skywards points to get tickets. I've just looked, and it appears that everything is sold out for the rest of this season - so you'll have to wait until the 2019-2020 season.

First post so hopefully this makes sense...
Am gold flying Y dub - dxb - akl in a few days (flight only just booked).
i have had the usual emails from emirates offering me upgrades via cash/points for both legs separately but offer only lasts 24hrs etc etc ie until normal 48hr checkin opens.
What I want to know is are these upgrades being offered because Y is nearly full so they will be upgrading passengers of status if Y ends up oversold OR is it just an extremely light flight so lots of room in Y to spread out and so save my miles to upgrade on return if available....

In my recent experience such offers also occur when Y is not full, but it doesn't mean that this is the case, more than anything it indicates that J isn't full, not much about Y loads

Except for Platinums, upgrades are no longer given by status but by ticket type, so don't rely on your Gold to move you up unless your on a Flex Plus ticket.

Status does still factor in, albeit after fare brand.

Thankyou ft101 and skywardhunter!

Due to late flight booking and return date most likely to change I am on a flex plus ticket. I have in the past got the magic upgrade at the gate due to oversold economy (a big bonus on the dxb - akl flight).

Price wise if there is availability is it best to upgrade in lounge or once seated on flight?

am thinking of just paying to upgrade the dxb - akl flight then using points to upgrade on way home and of course changing days if need be to get availability for the upgrade.

I don't think you can upgrade onboard for cash and not sure about upgrading mid-segment for cash either (i.e. your fare is AAA-DXB-AKL and upgrading for cash in DXB might not be possible for them to calculate easily unless there is an offer available for a discounted upgrade. As it is I'd keep an eye out for J Saver (O bucket) as from Flex Plus the additional cost might not be that high and sometimes savers do open up shortly before departure. With miles you can upgrade either in lounge or onboard, same miles cost.

Skyward hunter that was the plan - to buy a rtn saver fare in J but as I only booked on Friday there was only flex going out and flex plus coming home (school holidays in nz I believe coming home). Am hoping that I will have more notice for the next rtn journey to NZ later in the year so as can get myself a J saver.

Thanks for everything.

I know you get some crazy price structures ex SA but even the going rate for the email upgrade DXB - AKL is 800 quid so I think the difference would still be quite a lot even from a Y+ to a business saver.

Yeah to AKL might be tough. Also depends which Y Flex Plus bucket it is, the highest (full fare Y) is basically the same as J Saver.
