Very sure. The term has absolutely nothing to do with the subject of ordering a special meal.
Though I begin to wonder whether OP might be someone falling under the definition of "generation snowflake" - as we first get a rant about special meals and how they need to be cut and later it transpires that it actually all boils down to OP not being made to feel so special in Y without a special meal and having to wait for his a wee bit longer than OP thought would be acceptable as part of the EK Y 'experience'. Instead of cutting them, the meal distribution on board should now be changed. Really??? Like I said at the beginning, BYO and eat what and when you want, or appreciate that there might be another 200, 300 or so human beings around you in Y, including some with a special meal request, for whatever reason, and wait your turn. And as for those hooligans drinking alcohol... :D |
I had to look up what 'generation snowflake' means. You learn something new every day here on FT. Well, almost every day anyway,

The veg options now they've stopped serving lacto-ovo veg meals are awful. The only option now is Western vegan, Asian Veg or raw.. Seeing as I'm allergic to spices the Asian option is out. Earlier this month I was served a vegan which was just peas and something unidentifiable.
Other airlines seem to cater much better for veggies who eat cheese and dairy products - some nice cheesy pasta dishes on some of the LCC airlines. Really disappointed with EK's meal service in Economy. :td: Wine is served with the standard meals so special meals pax have to either go without or wait for the main meals to be served, usually half an hour later. When Y had a pre-dinner drinks service it was easy enough to ask for two bottles of wine, one to save for the meal. Not sure what the answer is but might be worth considering introducing menus so that people could choose in advance for a fee. Edit! Just rechecked special meals options and looks like EK has reintroduced the lacto ovo veg meal - if so good! |
<< This also causes a timing issue between the drinks service and the main meal service as the soecial passengers need their drinks with their meals whilst the regular passengers havent got their main meals.>>
Yes, special meals pax need drinks with their meals but have to wait for the drinks service which always accompanies the standard meal cart. They aren't offered drinks with their meals FYI. |

I normally order lacto-ovo, and now stucked with Western Vegan. I keep a record of what had been served and it seems like they are rotating the same meal over and over again: Triangular ravioli, mashed peas+couscous+pumpkin, baked eggplant. Breakfast menu will always be spinach, tomato, mushroom with either mashed potatoes or corn patty. I'm not complaining though, afterall they r quite tasty.https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...65167e127a.jpg Couscous with pumpkin and mashed peas https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...d8866d260a.jpg baked eggplant https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...9447f105b5.jpg Spinach ravioli |
Personally, I really do think the OP needs to go in with lower expectations when travelling on public transport In an economy scenario. EK as good as they are. Can’t please everyone as hard as they try.

Airlie food is airline food special or not its all frozen food. I also agree with the poster above that the airline should have the meals labelled and distributed during meal service instead of running around like chickens(no pun intended) without a head with special holy and healdy meals in their hands! LOL

That spinach ravioli

I love the special meals. The usual grub gets a bit boring, in my last few trips I have eaten Hindu, Kosher, fruit plate, veggie etc.
Long may it continue. |

SPML is usually not a favor. It is motivated by medical, health or belief reasons.
It's not a gift. Chefs are usually not as creative as for "normal" meal, and meals tend to be the same on a given route all year round. Anyway, if OP wants to feel special, he can pre-order a SPML, though, IMHO, I see no special VVIP treatment in a SPML. It's like complaining that WCHC gets favor. |

Or maybe they should go along the lines of.... pre-ordering your meal?? Then you know you'll get what you want (in most cases).

In my opinion, EK should introduce prepaid slightly better than economy meals for a premium of $5-$20. These would be served at same time as SPMLs.
Cheapskates could then relax in the satisfaction that they had saved a few bucks whilst the airline foodies can rejoice in prompt service (and hopefully a tastier bite!). |

Such service is an admission that the "standard" menu is not good enough ... even if marketing gurus want us to believe otherwise. |
