F award space in late May
 
I'm looking to travel in late may / early June from North America to DXB, currently the best option for me is out of IAH but thats in May so it with the 77W. I'm hoping to be on the 380 as its my first time in Emirates F.

My current plan is to book the flight out of IAH using JAL miles and then hope something opens out of another NA airport, I'm SFO based. My dates are flexible by about a week.

How likely is it that options will open up and how easy is it to change a JAL award? Any advice is very appreciated

That is the start of the 'tourist' season, so award inventory may be low as folks would have planned in advance and used up whatever inventory EK releases. If you are looking for just 1 seat, you may be lucky.

JFK is your best bet then.

It is likely but do not count on it. If you are solely waiting for upgrades to open up closer to departure, then you could be disappointed.

Keep checking. As your dates are during the Ramadan, and less people will be traveling to the hot places in the Gulf area, it's the best time for you to find F availability.
