EK261 Returning to DXB Engine Fire?
EK 261 today had some kind of engine problem on take off. Friend who lives over flight path says he heard noise and saw and engine fire.
Flightaware shows what looks like fuel dump for a while over the gulf. |

Looks like it circled for for over an hour before returning to DXB. Maybe dumping fuel?

Almost certainly, A380 on a ULH route - A380s are known to have flimsy breaks that overheat easily, so I'd imagine (pure speculation) that the tolerances for overweight landings are lower than on the 77Ws. Also reduce reverse thrust if they're running on 3 engines...

Wonder what engine went pop? Don’t the A380’s only use the two inboard engines for reverse thrust? Just thinking of watching them land and some videos online and only ever noticed the RT thingy’s deploying on the inner engines 😬. S |

It depends, I think they do use all 4 when needed, if one of the inboard engines popped they'd almost certainly use the outboard on that side, the brakes in the wheels are like moped brakes in the A380

Looks like it was A6-EUJ, so it was GP7270 engines. Since it was GRU I was thinking it might have been a RR bird, wouldn't have been a good sign for the new subfleet.
