65 minute transfer time at DXB
 

Hello,

I’m planning a trip next October from Glasgow to Tokyo. Outbound to Narita is fine, but my friend who i’ll be seeing there will be flying home from Haneda. There is a 00:30 flight available for me which departs after them, but this only gives me 65 minutes at DXB to disembark, possibly endure a bus journey, go through security again and the possibility of taking the train to my gate or a lengthy walk between B and C gates. Is that time at all possible to make connection considering the gates close 45 minutes prior to departure?

Otherwise i’ll have to say my goodbyes at Tokyo Station before making my way to Narita for the 22:00 flight instead.https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...07ed452f63.png

I think gates close at 20 minutes before departure, they usually start boarding Y at T-45. 1 hr 5 minutes definitely is short if you get a bus gate, but if they're selling it then they must be confident that you can make it. At that peak hour time I'd think they'd have separate buses for short connections (a bus to A gates for certain destinations if the normal one goes to B).

And don't show up to the gate with a duty free bag... ;)

EK offers you that connection so yes..it "should" be ok. Obviously they have enormous experience with connections at DXB both with passengers and luggage.
however if you feel extra secure with taking the NRT flight then take that.
HND is much nearer and cheaper to get to from Tokyo than NRT.
I'd risk going for the HND flight if I was light on hand luggage and could get quickly to the transfer gate.

Could I do it - Yes.
Would I do it - No.

EK will sell you connecting flights with as little as 1 hour between them and most folk do make them. I prefer to reduce stress levels.

Ask yourself would you rather be potentially stuck in DXB for 7 hours or would you rather say good bye at the station.

Hey ft10. Was it not your mate who had to pay for another ticket after turning up when the gate had closed due to a late inbound and a busing stand?

In my opinion it’s a no-go...

I had the same connection time for my bi-weekly AMS-BKK flight and 1/2 of the times i didn’t make it.
They will rebook you on the next flight but it’s a lot of hassle and also the stress it brings isn’t worth it.

Mind you that Emirates will wait for you with a sign the moment you leave the plane and have a rebooked boarding pass ready for you.

Nowadays I take another itinerary with a 3 hour connection which gives me some more comfort and time in the lounge (which I use for dinner so I can start sleeping the moment I enter the plane for my 2nd leg).

Currently holed up in Le Meridien after missing my 85min connection. Would not recommend, have gone from getting home at 2230 and a night in bed before work to arriving at 0700 with a CD straight to work :-/

How late was your flight from GLA? A busy day of telephone conference calls and a do not disturb sign on the door :D

Oooo this is going to be a tough one.

The last few times i've taken GLA-DXB, the plane has circled above Dubai for at least 40 minutes or so due to air traffic clearance at the airport and then the plane has taxi'd all the way to Sharjah and then bussed to the terminal adding at least another 20-25 mins.

I've just done DUB-SIN with a 65 min connection and got there fine. But I've never had a DUB flight need a bus and rarely been delayed landing due to traffic.

Yes. They said he must have dallied where he said no way, but he had to cough up. Not a full walk up single fare, but still a significant enough sum.

Thought it was and always the story I would relay if anyone asking about 1 hour connections when there are other choices.

I reckon I’ll get compo under EC261. Had a 1h25m connection which was missed because GLA-DXB was late. Had already been reticketed when I landed and sent to a hotel. Now arriving in SYD 9h after I should have. Would also like to think that EK414 wasn’t as choppy as EK412 which I’m currently on. Something about this time of year that makes these flights a roller coaster!
