Price increases on Maldives flights

i have just been informed that Emirates have put up the prices for flights from UK starting 29 November, in our case wanting to go from Manchester via Dubai to Maldives, price gone up by £500 in Economy.

is this standard practice or have we been unlucky

Airlines changing prices? Totally standard practice.

How were you "informed"?

What time of the year are you looking to travel? The winter holiday period is incredibly busy in the Maldives and they can charge more. We have travelled there in the summer (both May and July) and tickets were significantly cheaper than our most recent trip (early November).

if you saw the lower fare and hesitated in ticketing..meanwhile fare increased for your travel dates...Then both !

My TA advised, new contracts apparently. I am a regular flyer to the Maldives and am aware prices fluctuate, especially during the UK summer as it’s rainy season in Maldives.
we were just sorting the island, and the TA e mailed to tell me the price had gone up due to the new Emirates contract.

Sounds like a consolidator or bulk fare. How much are the flights if you look them up on emirates.com compared to what the TA is offering?

Just checked Mauritius flights and yes economy has gone up by around £100. Business class a bit less or not at all depending on your dates.
There was no warning of this.

looking at the Emirates site compared to the TA, the flights are more expensive on the Emirates site.

I've never seen an airline warn "watch it, prices increasing on the 30th!"

LHR-SIN flights in j have now all jumped up by £50 and so have the LHR-BKK flights that I have been tracking. Been consistent for ages, now all showing the increase.

the pound has fallen so that's put pressure on fares to increase. There's lots of competition ex UK to BKK/SIN inc LCC s however EK filling their flights so they know they can charge a premium over other carriers.
