Would booking a non EK SCL- AKL ticket now be the best way to do an ‘almost RTW’ on EK?
Something like: DXB/GRU/SCL/ AKL on another airline /SYD/SIN/DXB
Would be fun!

The start of EK service to SCL certainly opens up possibilities of RTW travel (with EK sectors).Just because there's the expensive EK published RTW fare ex France doesn't stop one flying a DIY RTW .
Also would allow one to fly open jaw from DXB or EK gateway into SCL and return from BUE or vv and if traffic rights GRU/SCL then do a 3 centre trip in South America....great for the business traveller !

Still hoping for a MEX or PTY, but they're probably waiting on the 787 to launch those. That said, my travel patterns have vastly changed and my flights are either US-China or US transcon these days, so I probably won't ever use those routes!

EK stops flying AKL-BNE in March 2018.

LA flies SCL-AKL-SYD and SCL-MEL (QF also flies SCL-SYD and NZ has EZE-AKL-BNE/SYD/MEL/ADL/PER) so those are simple non-EK options to connect to & from EK across the south pacific.

For the EWR-ATH flight EK worked out an arrangement with SAS to use their lounge at Terminal B but as that, and the LH lounge, doesn't open until 14:00 I wonder if they'll be able to make any other arrangements for lounge access for the new morning nonstop flight starting in June. The Art & Lounge.. lounge opens at 09:00 but isn't exactly a premium product. If I was flying EK J or F and had to sit in Terminal B I'd be a little miffed.
I do prefer EWR immigration over JFK though so for coming into the US it's more attractive.
Does anyone know which 777 version EK plans to use on the new nonstop?

Also, even from Manhattan these days, a taxi ride to EWR is not significantly longer than a taxi ride to JFK anymore - sometimes it takes less time getting to EWR. However, the train service between EWR and Manhattan is laughably bad, and there’s no EK lounge at EWR despite having two daily departures now.

Interesting move overall.

3 class 77W with 8F (A380 generation Suites), J in 2-3-2. Don’t thInk there’s a way to know if it’ll be new J or not though.

Can anyone shed some light on why EK 53 DXB-MUC no longer exists in the first week or two of May 2018, please?

They'll probably continue to use the ULR 77W's (read older) as they currently do now but in the future might have some flights with the new J as they do with BOS now but hard to know. For a while BOS never saw the new J but DFW/IAH get it almost everyday but now MCO/BOS/ORD all see planes with the new J but I don't think a single EWR flight has got it yet.

I would not be at all surprised if they use the Art & Lounge as there is no other option to my knowledge at that time and they do use Airline Club lounges at other airports where they do not have their own lounges. While not great, it is better than nothing especially at EWR, which is truly terrible when it comes to post security facilities in terminals A/B. I've never used this specific lounge but I think I would prefer it over a voucher for the terminal as they have done at AMS and currently at JFK, especially if the lounge is not crowded early in the day as I don't think it would be given the other flights operating out of Terminal B at that time.

Awesome! I'm so extremely happy for it! Hopefully this route should be done very well. I hear FLL-DXB has done extremely very well. They always full for everyday. Can't they have second daily FLL-DXB? Will they ever consider it?
