EK LHR/LGW will send some check in staff etc to STN to.open new station, I noticed same happened at BRU when opened... staff came from LON and stayed for a few weeks to see everything went smoothly and to train.Possibly it's EK s intention to later increase flights to/from STN.
Although well outside London and poorly served by public transport in comparison to LHR/LGW,it has huge catchment area(Inc N Lon),and if EK don't quickly
establish their dominance there, then QR will try to nudge in,although I think too late for them now!

I think DYKWIA you are going to have to accept that EK will continue the pattern of short term adjustments and cancellations for the forseable future.
Those individuals you suggest who will be scurrying back to EK in a downturn are, if I’m led to believe what I’m told is correct, made up in no small measure by the most experienced and sought after line pilots who I would further suggest can almost name their price elsewhere in the contract world when it comes to working conditions and pay.
EK I am told are frantically trying to plug the gaps in their flying programme as experienced crew walk out the door and aren’t being replaced on a like for like basis.

They are dnata staff, not EK airline staff though.

Whilst an ASO might be sent it shouldn’t have any impact on fleet deployment capacity.

SYD (EK416/417) new fourth daily flight with A380
I note that from July 1st this moves from an A380 to a 777. That's a real shame as the timing of DXB-SYD was ideal for a family travelling: it's not too late to keep little ones awake (just), you depart and the kids will go straight to sleep, you arrive in time for evening meal then kids go to bed to try and set their body clocks right. Alternatives are unpleasant: keep toddlers up till 2 am and arrive late evening when hotel restaurants are closed; or leave in the mid morning with the delightful bundles of joy packed with energy climbing the walls of the plane and arrive 6 hours before you can check in to your hotel. Not going to take the 777 economy though, the seats are too tight; 4 inches less across the middle four seats is significant. Am I right in thinking it's unlikely this will be changed back to an A380 any time soon?

Pretty hard to tell if it will change back, and if so when, but if you're a family if 4 does it make that much of a difference, assuming you take the center row of 4 and put up all the arm rests? The 77W has the benefit of the "gossip galley" (large aft galley) where one can stand and walk about a bit, which can be beneficial if struggling to put the toddlers down

We would indeed take the center patch with the two toddlers between us. I think my gut feeling is "anything to give them/us more space". We did the trip on the A380 a year back and it was pretty cramped already with stuff everywhere. It was a PITA not to have the kids kicking each other, sprawling on top of each other, etc. Also, I've got very wide shoulders, so would prefer to avoid the flight attendant clipping me every time they go past. But the timing is sooooo much better. It's a tough call. I have a few more weeks till i need to book, so will keep fingers crossed. When I saw the announcement of the new A380 slot I was over the moon. Too bad.

We talked about EK pilot shortage....many didn`t believed that....

Now even Tim Clark says they are about 100-150 pilots short.

Please see the news thread where this has already been posted, and where it really belongs.

EDIT - Although it really is a follow on from the last couple of pages. Maybe they should be extracted into a separate thread?

Agreed. I'm seeing stuff on other forums that I'd like to discuss like cabin crew shortage as well (officially or unofficially, one FG1 gone and Pursers to take up the slack in J?)
