I could be wrong but I don't think NAN is ready for an A380. Just think how many Leis/Salusalus they would need each day! (If you've not flown into Nadi, everyone gets a flower necklace and song on arrival).

I think the point wasn't the airfield's physical ability but the airport's handling capacity

Permission for a one off is often given even though an airport isn't capable of repeated operations.

EK business ex-AKL to Australia was very frequently on sale for NZ$599, NZ$649 or NZ$699; with wide open dates.

Yep, I'm flying AKL-MEL on EK in J in January and I got it for $587 total (inclusive of taxes and fees).
