Load control to SFO
Apologies if it has already been answered, but I couldn't find it.
Does EK limit the load on his A380 in economy to SFO due to weight issues. On both legs in the coming weeks, the last section of economy seems to have been fully blocked on the seat map. We are in Flex and on the first leg, even Flex Plus is not available while Biz Saver is still open. Could be our luck, expect if they leave empty a full section in Y due to weight control! |
I've flown EK225/226 many times and the Y cabin is always full, including that back section. It could be they have some cargo they want to carry but I don't think the've regularly actually blocked seats due to weight restrictions on this route since they flew the 77W a few years back.

As far as I'm aware these can be blocked out with an X for a few reasons
1. A group block booking 2. A booking from a partner airline The back 2 rows on the right hand side are also usually booked out for the additional crew on LH flights. |
The back right has seats blocked out on this flight and others for one reason only:
- it gives crew somewhere to sit and eat their food during breaks. However that's it, they aren't allowed to use the IFE, recline etc. Eating only. Especially on these ULH flights there isn't much space to sit for them even on upended containers and it can be long times between their allocated rest breaks. So you will see these seats avtually marked with 'crew' headrests... although of course people will try and sit in them. |
They may also be blocking a certain cabin from seat selection if the forecast load is so low that it can remain entirely empty and thus reduce crew workload. If more tickets are sold it may open up in that kind of situation.
