IRROPS

due out of LHR tonight, been cancelled due to 'operational' - looks like the other flights are all zeroed on expertflyer too.

chauffeur is due to arrive in 30 mins, there's availability on QF through LHR, or EK through Gatwick.

any suggestions of what i should do/ be prepared to accept etc?

cheers

I'd suggest you go to the airport and speak to the staff there. They should be able to sort things out. Maybe phone them also while you are in the car.

There seems to be some availability (F and Y) on EK16, the 21:45 ex LGW.
Which flight is cancelled?

diningdecadence May 12, 2017 12:57 pm

EK32 was my one cancelled, but the others were all 0'd out of LHR too.

they've put me on EK10 which is the 2145 from LGW. luckily I received the text 20 mins before the car pick up and ended up taking the thameslink instead.

thanks for the help - can probably delete the thread now though mods.

The driver would have taken you.

Didn't want to start a new thread but the IRROPS issue is very annoying.

Friend of mine currently on EK CDG-DXB, on-ground delay of three hours while they fix engine. Will miss connection to DXB-NRT.

The HND flight will leave just a few hours after the arrival of the heavily delayed CDG flight, and had at least 7 seats available in J class (friend is on full flex biz class)

Friend calls EK number in Paris... 'no sorry, ticket purchased through travel agent, can't change your connection to HND flight', and 'you have already checked-in all the way to NRT so we cannot change now'.

Flight ex-CDG now in the air, but reviewing my friend's booking EK has protected my friend on the flight 24 hours later to NRT, not to HND as requested. Why couldn't the agent put a note in the booking for a preference for the HND flight? Or do *something*??

Really maddening when they do this, and I assume those doing the rebooking don't look for HND as well as NRT.

Anyways, I guess there will be the EU261 compensation ex Europe.

I guess this is the problem booking with at a TA. Did they try and change via the TA?

No - they were already boarded, on the flight, 2 hours into a ground-stop for repairs. They thought this would put it under airline/airport control.

I posted a thread some weeks back about deteriorating timekeeping on EK.

My flight from DXB to NBI was delayed yesterday by an hour. The Captain was totally blase about the whole thing, no announcement until 15 mins after takeoff. A hotchpotch of silly things - baggage late to the plane, passengers late as it was a remote stand, passenger feeling unwell and unsure whether to travel (but still took the bus to the plane), airport busy and awaiting startup clearance etc etc.

Of course it was a minor delay but enough to ensure we arrived in Nairobi after the Qatar flight to a long visa queue.

It seems almost every flight these days, an hour here, an hour there. I hope this isn't the start of a downward spiral.

In fact it's funny how times change. EK slipping, big losses at Etihad, Qatar caught up in the GCC saga.

So to close out on this my friend arrived at DXB to be given a new boarding pass for the flight 24 hours later and told that a hotel would be provided plus transfers etc. End of story.

Using the info I sent my friend asked about the HND flight... 'oh, please wait'. And 15 minutes later he had boarding passes issued for HND. He said that without me messaging alternatives he would have been stuck in DXB.

Pretty poor service recovery from EK, and I can't understand why they would have someone wait 24 hours rather than arrive same day just 4 hours later.

Anyways - still putting in a claim for EU261, departed EU just over four hours late and arrived in HND more than four hours later than scheduled arrival.

A possible explanation (but not excuse) is simply that EK doesn't have a system that automatically rebooks or considers rebooking to co-terminals (airports that are considered equivalent for ticketing purposes), and not wanting to assume that a pax would be happy with a different airport in the same city. Of course with a 24h delay most would be, but if the delay was just 3 hours most pax might prefer the original airport as they would've already planned onwards from there. Their system may not be able to make intelligent decisions (or provide the information for agents to do so) taking into account such differences, hence it helps to know one's alternatives. Ideally they should've offered him HND as an option of course and asked which he prefers.

Agree with the logic. The only confounding thing in this case is that the passenger called from on board the delayed aircraft and specifically asked for protection on the HND flight.

Not that it should really make much of a difference, but this pax was on a full-flex, one way biz class ticket purchased a few days before departure... so basically top dollar excl First class. You'd think perhaps the agent could have made a note in the booking requesting HND, or sent a message to DXB to effect the same.

How late did it arrive into Dubai , since that is the only time that EK will consider unless the court of appeal rules otherwise

Scheduled arrival 0020, actual landing time according to flightradar 0409am. Plus taxi to gate. Might be a close call.

Either way, the reduced half price would be available, or the full 600. And it's covered if EK takes into account final arrival time in TYO.
