How is cabin temperature maintained during flight?
 

I'll probably wear a winter coat next time I fly EK. Recent flights have had cabins that were freezing - to the point where the cabin crew couldn't find enough blankets as many passengers wanted two or even three blankets.

I prefer a cool cabin but this felt very cold.

Contrast this with my SAS flight where the cabin was very warm after take-off and slowly cooled down to adjust to the cold Scandinavian ambient temperature at touchdown, but still comfortable.

So, how is the cabin temperature maintained on EK? Does it follow some logic or does the cabin crew member in charge of a particular cabin set the thermostat to whatever they want?

It depends where you sit. If you're near a door, it's generally a lot cooler than in the centre.

It is controlled by the cabin crew.

Though if there are issues will the bleed air and the heat exchanger in the engines might not be able to heat the air as much as they would like before having it enter the cabin. Though in that case they might up the recycled percentage, so not to lose as much heat.

;Airlines never seem to get a happy medium to suit everybody's needs unfortunately. I prefer it to be a bit cooler myself but always see others wrapped in as many blankets as possible or with coats and jumpers on.

On on my BA flight the other night on an A321, I was sat directly behind J class. Had to take layers off because it was too hot. Went to the rear galley mid flight and from the emergency exit row onwards, there was a significant change in cabin temperature noticeable.

I have found CX the worst for keeping cabin temperatures on the higher side, but until now, have thought EK manage to keep the temperature quite ambient (for my liking anyway);).

How true. I kept opening the blower to cool myself down the other day while the guy next to me kept adding layers of clothing and blankets.

If you're near the front left of the main deck on an A380, you can often see the crew making adjustments using the touch screen. Different zones can be set to different temperatures.

Better cool than hot.

There's only do much clothing you can shed if it's too hot.

Not to nitpick, but technically the temperature would be ambient even if 5 degrees if it is the temperature of the air around you :)

I'd say there's only so much clothing you SHOULD shed if it is too hot, given some of the sights I see around me (and when I look in the mirror)!

Bit like office work.

You'll have half the office freezing cold walking round in coats and the other half in short sleeve shirts getting on with it.

If you're in F the cabin temperature is usually set lower than the rest of the plane though - the IFE warms it up too much.

The mind boggles!

What inflight entertainment do you lot get up to in F that generates so much heat??? :D

For fun, the showers are dual occupancy.

But more, the heat comes when you get boorish pax in F complaining about nothing from all the hot air expelled :D
