Maybe, but it would have to be a special high value cargo imho, since EK’s freight revenue is, iirc, something on the order of 1.1k USD/ton and you can fit 23ton in a 77W.

26k cargo revenue contrast with a 42/42 J cabin with each pax on an average revenue of 1.5k USD and I’d put more money on a demand spike or trialling new pax timing.

I would be really keen to know to know what the real reason/s are. I take on that it is the start of Xmas hols , however does the really justify additionally scheduling of a 5th 77W for two days only - as mentioned above by someone the demand is only really oneway from JNB to DXB. Maybe someone should check flight loads for all flights Ex-JNB for those two days ( i do not have a valid EF sub) to see if it is purely for additional revenue seat loads.

On a side note one would think this is bad timing to be sticking on a additional service , surely one would think that everyone would of booked their Xmas trips by now - flight wise. Also i haven't seen EK advertise it once ...

Well a full cargo hold + incremental revenue from pax tix might make it viable, could also be something high value as you say, luxury cars, gold, etc. though for gold I'm sure the mines in SA use dedicated freight operators. Another option might be a sports charter which only fills up some cabins/seats and EK is cost-saving so now they sell extra seats on charters?

My money would be on an extra spike in confirmed demand (whether high value cargo or a full Y/J/F) on the days in question underwriting the costs, even if they can't sell any extra tickets.

This is what EK provided me via FB PM , so the reason is pretty conclusive why we are seeing a 5th service for 2 days only :roll eyes:...

Will try push EK JNB office to get a true reason

last year ...

extra flights were added ... although from DUR around the Christmas hols period ..... to ... quote the article

"Emirates are expecting an increase in passenger numbers over the holiday season as families living abroad come to South Africa’s sunny shores to visit friends and family"

so this year its from JNB . I would imagine that EK looking for ways with their excess metal to fill seats on other (connecting) routes to/from DXB which is apparent even in high season .

I don't think EK struggle with loads to SA. But JNB makes sense with the safari business, plus they codeshare with SA so JNB is the perfect gateway for a connection to Nelspruit, though not sure how the codeshare/interline works with Airlink

I don't think either that they struggle with loads to/from SA....however other routes Europe and Asia I notice are suffering so extra feeder traffic is needed ...bums on seats

Flight is operating as EK2675 on the inbound (DXB-JNB), departing DXB @9am and arriving in JNB @ 15:20. Then EK2676 on the outbound (JNB-DXB) leaving JNB @ 17:00 then arriving in DXB @ 3:00am. Pretty good timing on the inbound for folks based in DXB imo.

However pretty strange for EK to be doing this ? Excessive demand or trialling the option of how well a 5th flight work on the JNB sector.
Didn't see spotted - extra flight to / from LHR on 3 class 777:

15-17 Dec & 05-07 & 13 Jan:

DXB LHR 1510 1910 EK2641
LHR DXB 2110# 0800 EK2642

Wow , first time LHR would of got a EK 777 in a long time ! Maybe EK adding additional capacity on routes that have the demand bu using aircraft that most likely would be operating DOH sectors ?

Get's occasional switch outs - saw one earlier this year when boarding my Garuda flight from LHR. Also it's not that difficult to get one off slots at LHR - especially at weekend, and during holidays when airlines may cut back on short haul business routes.

Forgot to mention:
