Angry

EK425 (PER-DXB) and EK424 (DXB-PER) from a A380 to a B777
From March 27

(Had booked best seats in J on both flights, now 7 abreast 777 on both ... and ... no, can't switch to F or different flights (and found out too late to get the better/less worse J seats either)! )

I wonder which of CMN / NRT / BCN got my plane!

(NB: To rub salt into the wounds, the current a380s serving the route are the weeks-old just-added-to-the-fleet aircraft!)

Just done a dummy booking for LHR-BKK in November, just noticed that EK374/5 is now displaying as a 2 class 380, previously always been a 3 class, iam booked on it in July and that flight is still showing it as a 3 class, so maybe changes after summer, or EK just hasn't updated that part of system? This will join EK372/3 and EK370/1 as 2 class 380 flying into and out of BKK. I thought first class generally sold well flying to BKK? Buisness class is often oversold on this route, and last time I flew This a route was upgraded to first, which was also completely full. Has EK advertised this change yet?

I think you have to look at it from the perspective of BKK traffic - whilst EK does manage to sell F quite well into BKK, you have to remember they have 6 daily flights there from DXB and one each from HKG and SYD.

From DXB alone that's upwards of 50 F seats daily.

Given what carriers globally say about F sales and BKK's image as a leisure destination rather corporate F demand (although there definitely is corporate F demand into BKK on EK!), I wouldn't read too much into it!

EK099/100 has been loaded with B77W. Meanwhile EK095/096 will move back from A380 to B77W.

Is the PER switch permanent or a seasonal change?

It's permanent as more 380s are deployed on higher yielding routes or turned into beer cans.
If the travelling public want to pay another 10-15% premium, they can have the 380 back to their non slot constrained airport ^

If Emirates redirected some of their billions in advertising to highlighting the superiority of the a380 compared to their competitors' fleets, then they might have got the required loads ... but in this market what we see is negligible mention of the benefits of the EK product, just endless repetition of the "order"/"instruction" 'Fly Emirates' plastered all over showy events - F1, Horse races, etc...
That said, they did bring this a380 service a little late to the party, and it was introduced as pax numbers collapsed with the horribly mismanaged State economy, and drop in our "Mining boom". So, it will have been in place for around 8 months of low load, and pulled when the numbers probably start to improve! (Unless the 777 drives them to other carriers ... very likely)
Certainly gives a big advantage to the otherwise pretty shaky economics of the QF 787 direct to LHR, which will start a year from this dropping of the a380...

For the S17 schedule SEZ and LAD swap aircraft:

SEZ both flights with B77W
LAD reduce to B77L
