Emirates Wishlist for 2017 (incl Route Rumours)

It may be a little early, but last year's was started on December 7th. So, I am starting it later!

What I think will happen this year... I am expecting a new route to Denver. That is the most logical next US destination. I believe that Emirates will finally get there Panama City up and going. Possibly also Berlin???

What do you all think?

I don't think PTY will happen. Maybe DEN/PHX/2nd SFO. Any increase in rights from Germany, France, Canada, India will immediately see new flights.

Overall expecting this to be a 'seatbelts-on' type of year with continued fleet reorg. More A380 upgrades of course (e.g. BOS, FRA, BNE).

A second SFO is a safe bet.

Not much of a rumour as this has been confirmed to me by EK staff (and I think has been announced) but JNB going back to A380 from Feb. I'd like to see an A380 to CPT but apparently that won't happen until the new runway is built which is not going to happen next year.

I said it in the 2016 thread but will repeat. Apparently EK are still interested in sending the A380 to GLA but there will need to be some major refurbishment of the arrivals area as well as other building work to accomodate it on a regular basis.

Maybe the plans will move forward in 2017 with an announcement (hopefully) but won't see anything happening for a while yet.

Safe & Happy Travels

That is what I always wondered. In 2012 the winter schedule (Mar-Oct) there was an A380 (EK761/762) to JNB, but they 'downgraded' it to 777.
On 1 Feb 2017, the 380 will come back. The only EK African destination for a 380.
But a new runway in CPT for 380 ? Why ? As the runway is capable to receive 777s and 747 jumbos, they can also handle 380s.
But the 777 service (Y) is OK I have flown it more times to JNB and CPT, but, admitted, a 380 is slightly more comfortable in Y.

I'm not sure of the reasons at CPT but that's what I was told by the EK station manager. Aside from actual runway further consideration are also taxiways, aprons and gated which may be up for widening with the runway project. Also total weight supported by the runway may he an issue, not just physical size.
