An Emirates Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration A6-EMW performing flight UAE521/EK521 from Thiruvananthapuram (India) VOTV to Dubai (United Arab Emirates) OMDB with 275 people on board, was on final approach to Dubai's runway 12L at 12:41L (08:41Z) but attempted to go around from low height. The aircraft however did not climb, but after retracting the gear touched down on the runway and burst into flames. Passengers are being reported evacuated and safe. The aircraft burned down completely.

IMHO the aircraft going to the subcontinent are the oldest of the lot.

I believe that EK are phasing out the 773's from the fleet but there are still around a dozen left and they mostly fly to and fro in this sector.

Apparently all normal on final, I heard possible gear failure.

Poor quality ATC 5 mins in on http://www.liveatc.net/archive.php?m=omdb_twr (OMDB Tower Both or frequency 118.75, 0830-0900Z recording)

EK is expecting a 4-hour network wide delay.

Apparently wind shear reported on final, aircraft didn't hold prior to arrival, though that doesn't necessarily indicate a problem.

Both runways closed at DXB at the moment so nothing in- or outbound.

Right wing tank fuel explosion by the looks of it:

I'm in the Concourse B J Lounge at the moment... ground handling situation seems to be quite smooth at the moment.

Hope all those onboard are ok. I arrived 45min before this flight, feels a little too close for comfort!

Well the starboard wing appears to be ripped off from the airfield ops video on twitter, so no doubt there may well have been a fuel fire

Its a quiet time of day for DXB so that would explain the lack of holding i guess.

Wing is (at least somewhat) attached but engine has detached and inverted on top of the wing. The engine intake is facing the flaps and the flap position shows the wing is right-side-up

So far no injuries reported. both runways closed so you're not going anywhere for a bit, 4hr delay reported and I suspect they'll clear a runway in time for evening rush. Otherwise lots of diversions to DWC (already some underway)
