Fully booked flight - advice

Coming Thursday i'll be flying HKG -> AMS and I notice that J is fully booked. I don't mind flying a day later if that means I can fly F. What would be the recommendations for a strategy recommended to get this accomplished ?

I'm EK Gold and my J ticket is a saver.

I think there is no chance unless the flight is oversold in F and J once all have checked in such that some passengers need to be offloaded. At checkin you can let them know you'd be willing to be offloaded and go the next day.

What are your objectives here - to get offloaded and spend an additional day in HKG? Or to get an op-up to F?

You've got a better chance of an op-up to F if both J & Y are booked on your current flight. But AFAIK and from personal experience, EK wont re-book you on an F ticket just because you're willing to be offloaded. Instead you'll receive a denied boarding compensation ticket which will be the same value as a return flight to/from your destination.

You say J is full but you want to fly F so you will need F availabilty for HKG DXB and DXB AMS. If you wish to use points, you need the Z bucket or cash you can call and be waitlisted.

Objective is op-up to F. As I live in HK, an extra day in HK is not really inconvenient and no need for hotel etc and flying a few hours later is not an issue either.

Thank you for the info regarding the denied boarding compensation. I was just figuring that rebooking on F would be cheaper for them.

No chance they would ever do that.

Its pot luck as to getting an opup - you will be behind I/O, Plats and Gold Pref (Golds over 100k).

Good luck, you never know!

Hmm. Set me wondering how many other FT-ers would be minded to plan a 'strategy' in this way (perhaps many ...? ... perhaps none ...?). It's all rather alien to me - not least because Sod's Law means that Op-ups tend not to happen when aiming for one !

Once I've made my selection, I have this boring desire to travel on the flights & dates as booked.

I'm not sure to catch the whole picture here, but, why don't you stick to your flight ?
J is full. Being Gold, chance of offloading is slim, and if F is not full, you are on the upgrade list. You'll just have to pray that there won't be too many I/O and Plat as m3red said.
Offload + upgrade is quite unheard on EK, contrary to some other carriers.

Guilty! Have actively sought to be offloaded twice in favour of a paid night in destination and denied boarding compensation ticket. Once without status and once as gold.

Picture is quite straightforward, i'd love to fly F once on Emirates and I was wondering whether getting bumped would increase my chances doing that. Getting bumped is not a goal at all.

EK381 on Friday is not sold out either. Why do you think it is "fully booked"?

ok, when selecting my seat it showed that there are no J seats selectable anymore. Just double checked at the Emirates page, again no seats selectable in J.
