Emirates B777s to Glasgow

Hi all, first time posting!

I'm travelling on EK from GLA-MEL later this year so have been keeping an eye on their services from GLA-DXB. It seems to me that the Glasgow route (EK25/26 and EK27/28 - see below) receives a disproportionate number of the older B77Ws (registration A6-EB*) with the older IFE and seating, which AFAIK are not planned for upgrade in the near future. Certainly compared to other routes in Europe and other regions, even short hops in the Middle East, Glasgow seems much less likely to receive a "new" B77W.

Is there any reason for this, or is it just my imagination?

Cheers!

I have no idea why but I have found on my usual routing (GLA-DXB-CMB) the Dubai to Colombo sector always has the better chance of newer 777s than the Glasgow route

Aircraft utilisation for the GLA-DXB route:

http://www.theeksource.com/routetracker.html

Out of the last 66 flights EK25/26 and EK 27/28 have been operated by an A6-EB* aircraft 18 times (10/04-12/05). The oldest being A6-EBC at 11 years old and the newest being A6-EPJ (EK source doesn't have the stats on that aircraft).

The shiniest one I was on was A6-ENX at 1.5 years old at the time.

But one thing I will say is, I've not walked on to an EK aircraft (yet) and said "what a shed"...:p

You haven't been on EBA then - you would call it that.

The old ICE now is really showing its age, mind you, would be the same on EBC.

You get off one of the newer A380s (not been fortunate to have a EP* 777 yet) to go to one of the older 777s and its like my god, the dark ages.

Sorry to be 'that guy' but EBA is the eldest.

EDIT: Oh, you mean on that particular route, my bad, I misunderstood.

A6-EPJ first flight 31 Jan '16, so very mint condition I'd imagine:

If it's any consolation, most of the EB* now have wifi and live tv while not all of the newer bird do.

But yeah, finding yourself in from of the old ICE is now increasingly disappointing.

Hopefully we'll get big shiny A380's before long.

Cheers for the replies folks! I've noticed myself that going from the newer ICE to the old styles is a bit of a let down. I once flew BHX-DXB-DAC and back, outbound the BHX-DXB leg was on a shiny (at the time) A6-EG* model with the widescreen ICE (this was in 2009 so the best they had at the time). Both DAC flights were on an older B772/773 with the old IFE and the contrast was noticeable. Worst of all, on the DXB-BHX leg we were seated on a newer plane with nice new ICE, then it went tech and we had to be shepherded onto a spare aircraft...with the older system! Still excited for the trip, fingers crossed for a new one as they look amazing and keen to try them!

The biggest difference in the newest ones is that one can actually use the touch screen. In the old days the touch screen was so arduous in all airlines one had to use the controller to get anywhere.

I don't understand why emirates don't put on a b777 with ice digital wide screen and they only have old IFE I mean like thought all b777 with old ICE were retired and they have new ice or the ice digital widescreen like even during peak summer months old ICE why cant Glasgow get the ICE digital widescreen need to complain to customer service or someone as its a disgrace we get old b777 with old ice not acceptable plus dangerous as new b777 are safer

They do.

The OP thought they were predominately getting "old" ICE, not ICE Digital Widescreen, but the stats show that's not the case.

Oh yeah what basis do you have for that?

And what makes you think that a newer IFE = a newer aircraft? Some are retrofitted and the actual plane is older
