How to upgrade using miles

I am looking to book flights from London Gatwick - Male using an Economy / Flex Plus ticket. It states that I can use 37,500 Miles (each way?) to upgrade to business. But in the checkout process I cannot find any options to upgrade ( I am logged in). Any help is greatly appreciated.

During the booking process it only tells you the cost to upgrade (if it's shown as LGW-MLE that's the cost for the whole way) - unfortunately you need availability on both sectors to process it afterwards. They don't guarantee upgrade availability.

You can't do that during the booking online but only through Manage my booking post-purchase. If you call them they can check if there would be availability before purchase.

Additionally, do watch out that the cost to upgrade both sectors LGW-DXB and DXB-MLE might not be the same as LGW-MLE!

Ah I'd not much of a risk taker so dont want to risk running out of availability.

You can check for availability before booking either using a paid for Expert Flyer account, or by checking for J Saver Reward space on EK.

Thanks. The best way might be to use miles from LGW - DXB for 90,000 miles + £661.

Then DXB - MLE for £1582.17.

You can also call the Emirates reservation line/office and they will tell you if there is availability to upgrade. I have done this more than once when I was ready to buy...confirmed space was available, bought the ticket and upgraded as soon as the purchase was processed.

if in doubt, best to call the Skywards contact centre. They are usually very helpful
