Perhaps a sign that, unlike their other US destinations, the local demand is quite low.

I think the 1020 arrival is just a function of having the plane available ex-DXB to depart at 0300 - it's clearly picking up GCC/South Asian feeders that depart in the evening local time that get to DXB ~midnight.

On the ground at FLL, I'd expect EK to be the recipient of incentives in the form of waived parking charges for a year or two so they can afford to have it wait there to collect afternoon B6 transfers from Central America and the Caribbean.

Plane gets back in time to operate evening or midnight peak services as normal with low turnaround time. I think the scheduling works pretty well from an operations perspective, especially if EK don't have to pay for FLL parking charges.

If it departs FLL evening local time it won't be in DXB until mid-morning at the earliest (off the top of my head maths), so it'll miss the midnight and possibly the next morning peak and effectively be out of DXB for 30+ hrs.

Luckily for you, no need to do off the top of your head sums, because EK did it for you

FLL-DXB arrives at DXB 1940 local time, so in time for the evening-midnight shift.

Sure, but planes on the ground don't make money.

But it's a trade off. Fly back empty, or wait a few hours and fly back full

September 2017?
Summer 2017?
Spring 2017?

Bit heavy on the acronyms there.

Indeed it is. A stretch to infer that S17 refers to Summer. Also where I live Summer is in Jan. In India it's in April and over by July.
