Booking for someone else
I want to make a miles booking for my daughter from my account. However, I will not be travelling with her - and given she is under 18, does not have a c/card.
If I book on my credit card, and don't go to airport to drop her off, is it a problem - not having the c/card for verification? From past experience >90% of the time emirates does not issue boarding pass online, asking for security verification (present c/card at airport). Any experiences? How do people get around this issue? Tks |

Tks it depends on the routing reg credit card restrictions/verification. for what routing would it be? otherwise - if you are near a EK office - you can pay there with your credit card, no verification done afterwards at the airport. |

it depends on the routing reg credit card restrictions/verification. for what routing would it be? otherwise - if you are near a EK office - you can pay there with your credit card, no verification done afterwards at the airport. Local EK office is very inconvenient. I could potentially pay with PayPal - but would like to make use of EK c/card and get the 4x miles. |

From the UK it is not a problem.
I have paid for tickets for both my daughters/family's with my CC on BHX/DXB but I am not travelling with them. I believe routing from other countries may have different rules ( With TG I had to provide a letter/copy CC) Ss |

Not sure but I think EK has a sponsored booking checkbox on the booking page where you can specify that the person paying isn't the passenger. Even if not all airlines generally allow you to mail in a form from the CC holder that it's a sponsored booking, removing the requirement for CC Verification at check-in.
Send a tweet to @EmiratesSupport and ask or give them a call. Usually pretty responsive on Twitter IME. |
ex-UK, you will be fine - especially as it's a miles booking, EK have already received the revenue.
CC checks only if you buy direct online in a country that has less than stellar credit card security and chargeback systems (i.e. high fraud). Avoided with travel agent bookings and direct sales. Also don't forget the airport is always a location where you can verify a credit card as they are also online ticketing stations! On the way back there will be no problem either. |
Thanks all

Don't know about KHI, but ex India they sometimes ask for the credit card used for the reservation.
This usually gets flagged up if the credit card does not have the same surname. It is mostly an issue if the first leg of the journey is ex India. In your case the ticket would have been used for the outward travel and therefore should be Okay. The safest thing is to give an authorisation letter with a photocopy of your credit card to your daughter just in case. PS: I assume that you have the Elite version if the Emirates skywards MBNA card which gives 4 miles per £ spent on EK. You can add on other family members to the card if you want. In theory they have to be a close family member and have to be over 18. In practice there are no credit checks. The card has the same number as your own with your nominated add on persons name on it. I happen to know someone who has an add on card for his dog.:-) |
Oops. i think I made a mistake in the earlier post.
Reading through the OP's post again, I can see that the OP's wife is travelling with a minor daughter. Things are easy then . The OP can ask for an add on card from MBNA skywards in his wife's name. There are no credit checks . His wife will be issued with a visa and an amex card with her name but the card numbers will be the same as the OP. ( The 4 digit PIN will be different in case she decides to spend on it ;-)) Make your wife the primary passenger and use the add on card with your wifes name to buy the ticket. Your wife can travel with your daughter and carry the add on card for the journey. The 4× skywards miles will come to your account.. |
I have purchased 4 tickets this year for a friend, BKK-DXB return. I gave her a photocopy of my credit card and it was never an issue, they actually never asked. I just tried to book another ticket and when the credit card details came up I could only change the first name. The last name on the credit card had to be the same as the traveler. I think this is exactly your situation buying for a child and it would be OK.
I need to go to an Emirates office to pay and then it will be OK they tell me. The last ticket I bought was in September so the change occurred after that. |

Thanks. Going to pay for daughter (miles reservation) with wife's additional card (she already has one). Wife will be on separate reservation, but they will be travelling together. So wife will always have her card. As a few of you have suggested, it could be problematic if surname is different on card - but that is not the case here.
Looks like it should work out ok. |

Ex UK, AFAIK the website forces you to pay using a card with the lead passengers surname .
