Charging devices onboard

Hi sorry if this has been posted before I'm on this flight tomorrow lunchtime to dubai then another EK flight to Bangkok flying economy class. Does anyone know if I will be able to charge my phone on this flight? I haven't flown for about 10 years so things seem to have changed a bit

Yes, on both A380 and 777 you can charge your phone.

You can charge using a USB cable or normal plug. The FAs have adapters should you need one.

Not to sound moany, but to add to the conversation..

My last flight (777-300ER) I plugged my phone into charge and while it stated it was charging, I was very much losing power through medium use of my phone (Nexus 6).

The USB sockets on board basically aren't designed primarily for power delivery, and so, on many models, only deliver 0.5A current. However, most modern smartphones are designed for use with adapters that pull down 2A (both at 5V). Basically, if you're using your phone to watch a movie or something computationally and therefore power intensive, on-board USB might not cut it.

The power plugs would be the preferred method to charge here :)

Yeah it was useful for watching movies on a high brightness. When I was half asleep listening to my podcast did slightly better.

Charging through the wall socket thing is quite fast actually, however some large chargers like the massive European wall adapter for the Galaxy S6 doesn't fit in the socket because it's so damn wide!
