Sir Tim appears to have a sense of humor. What do you bet he sticks a 380 in ATL, just to make them nuts. Emirates isn't Alaska. MXP redux.

Too bad February 12 might be a little too soon to start a new route, even for EK!

I had taken DL7 a number of times, however it was when the wars in Iraq/Afghanistan were more active, and that led to a somewhat unsettled vibe on the plane, as in all my flights the Y passengers were, in my estimate, 80% contractors; the gender ratio being probably 8-1.

Give me Desi families with crying kids any day over military contractors staring blankly, or at you in the eyes, aggressively.

Another factor was the flying time; flying to Atlanta always took 15+ hours, sometimes 16+, the same that it took to fly to LA/SF on EK.

Unless you were going to the south east, it made for a very long journey.

And I am not even mentioning the IFE/food.

When I flew them though, ther were good value for money, bought DXB-SFO return for 950$, but over last couple of years, they have been the same price +/- 200$ as the ME3, and so never made sense, particularly with the 200USD change fee (as opposed to 80$ on any AA Y ticket booked out of DXB)

I just read through the Delta thread regarding them pulling out of DXB, and I'm surprised how there's no negative response really towards EK. In some cases they would welcome an EK A380 to Atlanta with open arms.

I've taken this 3 times now. Always enjoyed it but I will echo the previous comments that , even after the wars, there was a high ratio of contractors on which COULD make it interesting. Mostly guys that were getting cut off sometimes even before we pushed back!

Emirates looking at Atlanta as Delta pulls out.

Delta is currently the only airline flying directly between the Gulf and Atlanta.

I wouldn't be surprised if EK start flying Atlanta Feb 12, 2016.

TK will start daily flights to ATL in May and QR in June. There will be a lot of traffic to ATL soon.

I find it somewhat hard to believe that Delta has been running a loss-making route for two years.

I said in the DL thread that EK should fly a A380 to both ATL and SEA, just to really rub it in!

(Then it got all serious, someone pointing out that SEA isn't A380 capable and that EK was one of Boeing's biggest customers so it wouldn't be right for EK to fly an Airbus into SEA... yadda yadda yadda).

The point is... hopefully EK gives DL something to really whine about.
