I may be a bit spoiled, but my first EK experience was SIN-DXB-JFK in F. Flying SIN-DXB with just my wife and kid in F + DXB lounge + multiple showers, i think i was spoiled.

What is it with Flyertalk and showers?!?!

With all the talk about showers and no one else in F on my first flight, i asked to shower twice :)

Thanks very much for the tip. I have just checked in and stored the boarding passes on the iPad. There was a small part of my mind wondering if holding off with check in until the airport might have yielded an upgrade (I'm on an economy flex fare)!

The check-in method doesn't come into consideration when it comes to complimentary upgrades, your boarding pass in the app will be automatically updated, or if not, will be rejected at the gate and a new one printed if you get one.

Will try it on my next flight, but maybe not with 20... 4~5 should fit in my carry on nicely.

Hate to burst your bubble, but unless you have status (at least gold ex-DXB). It's very unlikely you'll get a free upgrade.

Fare type don't seem to matter much to EK.

Shower twice ?!?!?

OK, the floor is heated, the room is large, relaxing tea and fruits are waiting back at your seat, etc
but, the shower itself looks like a plastic prefab unit ... and it's not even rain shower ...
(again, you can throw rocks at me, but don't crash my hairstyle)


I'd rather spend time at the bar or chatting with FAs ...

While I think a shower is not essential, I think what is essential is a nice and large lavatory in F. A perfect example of this are the lavatories on QR's A380's in F.

The lavatories o nboard the EK 77W in F for example is just unacceptable.

Well DXB to BNE is a long way and eventually there is only so much Dom I can drink (apologies to M3red). Taking a shower occupies 20-30 mins and provides the largest space I can find to wander around without either falling over someone or getting in their way :cool:

No problem at all. That's how I would expect a good loyalty scheme to work (unlike the way the Lufthansa one is, where status apparently doesn't count for anything). At the same time, I have to tell you (and everyone here) that no less than 6 friends, for musical or leisure reasons, have flown with Emirates during the last 12 months and all have come back from their trips boasting of wonderful and generous upgrade experiences with Emirates. So I rather got the impression that Emirates doles these things out left, right and center. They were all on connecting flights, not O/D trips. The spiel always went something along the lines of "there was no space more in economy class so they had to put me in business class". So there's gold member loyalty for you. Not a single one of them, from Germany, Switzerland and France, are a member of the loyalty programme or even joined up. Of course, they now all think Emirates is just great, that there is no better airline!

I agree that a large lavatory is, in 2015, a requirement for F - but I'm not sure where you could fit two of them on a 77W in F, and to still have 8 seats!

I have to agree - once, of course, a shower has to be done. Twice...truly a Flyertalker :D As you say, I think I can amuse myself for 20-30 minutes by pestering the crew or ICE or avoiding work by shuffling papers around on my table!

And if you can't find two persons max, well, don't forget there is err wi-fi on board :D

EK has certain routes where there is exceptional Y demand throughout the year and they overbook the cabin significantly - this coupled with the new Skywards earning changes filtering through over the course of the year means that quite often there aren't enough Skywards members to upgrade :D Don't worry - even if you were Silver on these flights you would have got the upgrade first.
