Emirates Stopover in Dubai

Hello All,

I am trying to book EBB-JFK-EBB on Emirates. My return flight has a transit of 13 Hours in Dubai. Fare Breakdown is as below:

Fare USD US Dollars 528.00
Carrier-imposed charges USD US Dollars 510.00
Taxes and fees USD US Dollars 121.60
Total per passenger USD US Dollars 1,159.60

In fare conditions below is mentioned for Stopovers:

STOPOVERS :
STOPOVERS

UNLIMITED STOPOVERS PERMITTED ON THE PRICING UNIT

LIMITED TO 2 FREE AND UNLIMITED AT USD 100.00 EACH.

1 FREE IN DXB IN EACH DIRECTION

UNLIMITED AT USD 100.00 EACH.

NOTE -

STOPOVERS ARE PERMITTED ONLY AT THE CITIES

MENTIONED IN THE ROUTING ATTACHED

Can someone guide me what this means? Would i get free stopover in Dubai for 13 Hours transit as the fare condition mentions "1 FREE IN DXB IN EACH DIRECTION".

I am confused as base fare is only USD 528.

Thanks in advance

Stopover in the fare rule refers to the ability to break your journey in DXB for >24 hours (so technically the stop in DXB is an actual stop, not just a transit point - a technicality for the purposes of misconnecting etc.). Many restricted fares on other carriers do not allow a stop in the intermediate point, but EK tend to allow free stops in DXB in the middle of the journey.

It doesn't refer to a stopover that's paid for by EK - as in, they won't cover any costs of taking advantage of the stopover rights, like they would if say, the fare was eligible for Dubai Connect.

Hello,

My friend from Turkey has a stop-over issue as well on EK from Istanbul to Rio (via Dubai).

STOPOVERS :
STOPOVERS
4 STOPOVERS PERMITTED ON THE PRICING UNIT
LIMITED TO 2 FREE AND 2 AT USD 75.00 EACH.
NONE IN DXB.

No stopovers are allowed in Dubai. If he purchases a multi-city ticket forcing the system to create a 3-5 day stopover in Dubai to visit me, the price changes from 1100 to 14000 US$.

Is this a new policy with Emirates?

Fairly recent, but only on certain routes (origins) - they are attempting to reduce the amount of people based in DXB circumventing the high ex-DXB fares by positioning out to easy to access regional ports (see ex-CMB) and having a "stopover" in DXB.

Unfortunately "legitimate" itineraries are ensnared in that, but I suppose EK feel they are rare enough that the revenue protection is worth the cost - after all it's a pretty long backtrack given the connectivity out of IST!

They've done the same with EK uk flights to Jordan... No stop off allowed on the outbound.

It's a pain and I'm sure only a few people are doing this. I'll definitely start to look at alternatives if they end Dxb stopovers.
