DXB - DPS 9h delay due to ash cloud

Hi,

I am really new to this forum, but I just want to say I have been searching through the forum for an answer.

I was supposed to fly with Emirates to Bali this morning and the flight has been delayed to this afternoon (9h delay) due to the volcano spitting some ashes.

I know this is not Emirates responsibility as this is an external event. The only aspect that bothers me a little is that I decided for once to fly in business to enjoy a 9h day flight with the great services they provide. Now that is has become a night flight, and I would have not paid for a business ticket.

Do you think I could ask Emirates for some miles, or anything, to "compensate" this little discomfort?

I appreciate your replies.

thanks

Hi,

Unfortunately, you have touched on the answer yourself, as the event is outside of the control of the airline, you certainly won't get any compensation out of them (especially if you give them the reason you think you're entitled to be 'I wanted to be awake during the flight').

However, you could have better chances if you simply ask them to move you to the next day, although you run the risk of having the same thing happen, this volcano is erupting erratically at the moment.

Can I ask though, whats stopping you enjoying 'the great services they provide' during the night? Even if a day flight, the cabin is still likely to be darkened anyway. Service standards are the same day or night.

Let us know how you get on, will be interesting to see how EK handles this.

Cheers,
Justin/BKK

I agree with the above poster, you can probably ask to move to the next day's flight if it has seats.

Another option would be to try and downgrade the sector to Economy and then get a refund of the fare difference after paying the change fee.
