Depends on how many tickets sold, but even if a few hundred, they could get some good PR out of it by honouring the tickets, but of course if it happened again everyone would expect the same.

Reservation Canceled

Booked with ebookers, got an email this morning saying that the reservation was canceled.

Dear Customer,

Here at ebookers we are always on the lookout for issues that may impact your reservation with us.

It has been brought to our attention that your flight reservation made on the 31st July was incorrectly filed by the airline and as such you have paid only for the tax element of the booking.

As the booking is therefore not valid we have been advised by the carrier that the reservation will need to be cancelled.

A full refund will be provided for you and ebookers will process this today to allow you to rebook your travel.

On behalf of ebookers we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and can only seek to assure you of our best intentions at all times.

Regards

ebookers

I got the same email this afternoon, and a couple of hours later one showing the cancellation.

Shame, but no big deal.

What, no threat of lawsuits because the airline didn't want to honor an obvious mistake fare? ;)

1) It was not necessarily 'obvious' (i.e. is USD 1800+ a 'mistake fare'? This was one of the prices given for LON-FRA-SFO-SYD-MEL-SYD-SFO-ZRH-LON)
2) This did happen to (mainly) US customers.

That's not the ticket that a vast majority bought. Are we to believe that seasoned FT posters thought that $100 for a roundtrip business class ticket from the UK to the US was not an obvious mistake? I'm sure that the fact that most of them had to fake their credit card info in order to purchase the ticket didn't indicate that it was an obvious mistake fare, right?

Yes, some Americans have no shame and will sue anyone for anything. http://www.instituteforlegalreform.c...t-abuse-impact

Feel sorry for anyone that had their Y Class tickets cancelled, £499 is not an unusual fare (albeit limited) on airlines like MH & QR in recent months from UK to Perth.

EK from LGW is currently £573.

As for you who booked J, meh!

But AFAIK these are two completely separate issues : the cancellations involve error fares for J class only, and Y bookings are unaffected.

As you say, £499 or thereabouts is not unknown for Perth ex UK. In fact, IIRC (?) it was actually marketed as a one-day special by a number of agents last Friday. It seems that when people began looking at the (genuine) Y offer, some then spotted an error fare as low as £918 return in J with ebookers, or £952 with Kayak and others.

The problem with the J fare is that it was a) around £2K below the norm and b) made up exclusively of taxes & charges, thus allowing any OTA issuers to cancel by claiming that the mistake should have been obvious for all to see.

I would be surprised if any of the Y bookings have been cancelled. Even if there IS some element of error with that fare too, then surely neither the agents nor EK would wish to damage their image given the very minor level of discrepancy. The gap in the J fare is of course very different ........

Ah OK, I thought all tix were being cancelled, was hard to tell from the threads.

But agree with what you say re: discrepancy between J fares and what was charged.

There is another thread running on this here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/premi...-return-j.html

I really doubt it's just ebookers who are cancelling the tickets.

Well it seems like it is just ebookers who are cancelling unless anyone can comment otherwise
