MEL EK lounge was open last time I was there. MEL has several flights, and the one to AKL will continue to operate as DXB-MEL (i.e. just without AKL tag leg).

Indeed, MEL still has a number of EK flights to DXB, so no plans to close the lounge there. Are you getting confused with the QF flights which no longer go via DXB?
I suspect AKL will see further flights again at some point, so I doubt they'd close that lounge either.

I have never been to either city, ever. But I googled “Emirates lounge Melbourne” and it said permenantely closed. And with all the reshuffling of routes there I assumed it could be closed as a possibility. I will be flying between Melbourne and Aucklan at the end of January in F. So I am interested in the lounges. From what I’m reading the best lounges are Emirates, and to stay away from the qF lounges?

Reasonably close. They used to be adjacent but the newish EK lounge is now a couple of gates over from the QF F lounge. Both are one level above departures and well signposted.

You should have no problem accessing the QF F lounge (I've done this myself on several occasions). There may be a late EK departure from MEL when the QF lounge is closed (I've not checked recently) but that is not an issue for the MEL-AKL flight.

Qantas F Lounge Sydney - Access Changes
I have always been able to access the Qantas F Lounge when I was transiting Sydney arriving in First on EK and departing in Business on QF to New Zealand (No First on Trans Tasman).
On Friday I was informed that the access rules had changed and I could no longer use the First Lounge as access was now based on the departing flight.

Generally lounge access has been based on the departing flight.
Sometime there is a rule relating to itinerary such as that of oneworld where it is documented that connecting oneworld travel on a 'long haul (over five hours) flight' in First in conjunction with a short haul flight would provide such access. I am aware of no such rule with the QF/EK partnership.
To be honest I am not sure any rule has changed, rather it's that there is no more EK First TransTaman in/out of SYD.
If you had been Skywards Platinum you would have been able to use the Qantas First lounge.
