Two Record Locators for One Booking
 

The missus will be flying JFK-BLR in Business on saturday. Using the record locator from the reservation, I picked her seats and reserved her car. The email that came as confirmation had a completely separate Record Locator. Now both Record Locators work to Manage the Booking.

Nothing to worry about, I hope. By which I mean, since she will only be traveling on one Record Locator, could the system perhaps, cancel the rest of her booking when it finds that the other record locator remained unused on the first segment (hence assuming the pax was a no-show)?

The first reference must have originated from another airline system or travel agent. The second one is EK's reference.

Another question on said itin. The wife, mistakenly, booked the one stop to DXB instead of the non-stop from JFK. This first sector is a Flex Plus fare in Business. We can't select seats on this flight-- seats are requested and pending for over a week. I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade (subject to available space, of course) just one segment (JFK-MXP) with miles (since its significantly cheaper) or does one have to upgrade the entire way to DXB? Does EK allow flying two separate cabins on the same flight (number).

There is no Z space on this Saturday's EK206 JFK-MXP. And JFK-MXP will need to have been ticketed as a separate leg (if on MMB it shows JFK-DXB, then no way it can be done online).

If she's a Skywards member and has enough miles in her account, and provided there's a vacant seat on departure, she could request it on board - am assuming she's travelling alone. But the flight seems oversold so, if she holds status she might be op-uped.

To clarify, how did you book this ticket?

The ticket was booked (JFK-DXB-BLR) via Amex Corporate travel. She is flying alone. Since the following day is Mother's day, I thought I could use some Skywards miles from my account for a J to F upgrade. I have a little over 30k, which is enough to upgrade one segment but not both.

She is not a Skywards member, and is crediting miles to Alaska. She is on a Flex Plus (not sure what exact class or where to look for that) fare, though. Perhaps that might make a difference for the Op-up. I did try a dummy booking on the flight, and it showed availability in J (for two) and F (for three).

Sure. Thanks for clarifying. The JFK-MXP needs to show as a sector to be able to request an upgrade prior to departure.

Regardless, what I would do is:
- Transfer some more AMEX points to EK to bring it up to 54k miles in your account - you could also purchase 25k miles for 1k USD, or transfer from SPG 20k points.
- Change her booking to EK202 (the A380). (do this any way, the flight is emptier).
- Upgrade her on JFK-DXB (there are Z award seats on this flight).

Not only will she get a proper F service, it saves her a layover.

Regarding the change, though-- while initially a mistake on her part (she intended to leave by the 11pm departure), it turns out that its not such a bad thing. By connecting from 206, her arrival into Bangaluru is at 9 am, versus 3:30 am via the JFK-DXB non-stop. As she is traveling by herself, she is more comfortable arriving in the morning than in the middle of the night.

So they switched my wife to the 202 on their own. Its a longer layover in Dubai, but she gets to fly the 380.

Sounds like an IDB to me, but she didn't care. She made dinner plans with friends in Dubai!
