Proactive upgrade offer using miles
Just had a notification on my iPad from the Emirates app offering me to upgrade my Cai flight to first next Thursday ek 927.
Anyone had this? I'm guessing that y is way over so as golds in j the mrs and I will have a chance of an op up. I also wouldn't waste points on sky cruisers. The way back is suites so for 32k miles for both I may just take the plunge for a top up of DP :D Strange thing is when I check EF there is no availability... |
Never had it, however flight load is very light when I check it today morning.
F8 Z2 A6 J9 D3 C9 IC So if you want your DP you'll better do it ;) |

Special offers also come out when J/F is thoroughly empty and they want to get some extra cash.

I've never been offered a "cheap" upgrade to f. Always been y to j.
Is that 32k per person for outbound and inbound upgrade? That would be a good deal, gets you about 3p per point considering the fare differential is about 970GBP for J to F on that route next week. |

I think y may be over surely?

Perhaps they are relying on their email marketing images to make people think the special offer is "cheap" :D

I'll upgrade the way back if it opens up as its suites but currently only one z available. I've not seen eK proactively push miles upgrades except at online check in. |

I had an email offer for one a while back - they make the potential point value of the redemption really attractive: I would go for it, if you are having trouble finding uses for your points :D

Has anyone tried upgrading j to f at check in after using points to go to j?
I got a trip coming up and the ticket now says business flex plus... Obviously computer says no I'm just wondering if check in would know or let you? |

Depends how strict the controller is - upgrading to J flags your ticket with AWUP, which tells the controller it's already been upgraded with points, so they generally don't then let you do it again. But, controllers have the last word, so they still might let it through.

Just upgraded Thursday's flight.
Fancy a decent breakfast and a quick free massage! You must have miles to burn to want to move from J to F on such a short sector, Dubai/Cairo ...... around 3.5 hours is it ...?? !! |

Ah but of course there is, as they say, no 'free' lunch. (or even massage)

The DXB-CAI flights are one of the best choices for mileage upgrades (in my opinion) as they are the longest flight in the 16,000 upgrade bracket (used to be 12,500). The flight duration allows for a full meal service at a relaxed pace and plenty of time to have the drinks of your choice.
I have often upgraded Y to J with miles and then received an op-up to F at the gate for this route. |

12.5k was the old rate pre the new enhancements from earlier this year. However, some bookings that I made after the new changes came into effect still used the old rates, not sure why.

EK called me today to tell me of a flight time change...I'm guessing because I'm now in f... The time change is due to the fact Egypt was supposed to switch their clocks for daylight savings time on 24 April 2015, but this year they decided not to switch. The decision came only last week, hence Emirates flights to/from Egypt all have a one hour change from 24 April onwards to something like mid-September. The last few years have been very confusing with DST changes in Egypt, and the flights sometimes move one hour ahead or back at short notice for this reason. |
