GR2 = Economy
GR1 = Business
FG1 = First
SFS = Senior Flight Steward(ess) = 1x working Economy / 1 x working Business (changes in the A380)
PUR = Purser (1x per Flight)

There generally aren't any SFSs working in F :D

Although these days, what with crew shortage, you can see any combination - I was on a Y flight the other day with 2 pursers and 2 SFS and 1 FG1 working the Y cabin!

whoops! typed last post after a long day at work, but im certain you know what i am talking about :D.

Hope EK can address crew shortage asap but i think they expand faster with routes than personnel.

Don't forget 2x SFS in Y on the A380!

But of course, crew shortages mean anyone could be working anywhere for the next couple of months - mainly in Economy.

Perhaps the Y service is about to markedly improve in the next couple of months...:D

Also the shortage of GR2 personnel also smacks of the replacement of 777s and A330/340 with A380s rather than route expansion - an A380 needs an additional 6-8 (I can't quite remember, perhaps w00t can sneak a look at his other half's smartphone to check for us!) GR2s to fill out the economy cabin every time they upgauge, and with a new A380 every month (and of course 2- class ones on the way), and add to that all the standby overheads you'll need to make sure there are enough to cover...well...recruitment needs to step up!

You did mention hordes of Thai ladies at the BKK Westin - I'm afraid you just missed an EK cabin crew day, judging by the queues of applicants I happened to notice the other day in BKK!

Give them about 3-4 months to work through the system and I think EK's staffing levels will be back to normal - unless the constant rostering of more senior crew into economy is going to make them leave too...

That's why I wrote "changes on the A380". ;) Didn't want to write now for each A/C how many of which grade are on board. :)

OK, A380 crew (24) is as follows:

1 x PUR
3 x SFS (1x Business / 2x Economy)
4 x FG1 (supported by PUR in F)
8 x GR1
8 x GR2
2 x CSA (Cabin Service Assitant - don't really count as crew)

Cheers,
w00t

darn! Didnt stay at Westin this time, move up to better property across Westin (Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit). Bet ME3 will stay busy in Thailand for next years to take more lovely Thais to see the world, though :D
